Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office - Waterloo, Iowa

• On 05/30/26, at approximately 2024 hours, Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the area of River Forest Road and the ramp to southbound Interstate 380 in Evansdale for a report of a motorcycle collision.

•Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the driver of the motorcycle collided with the guardrail while approaching the curve of the ramp. During the collision, a passenger was ejected from the motorcycle.

•The driver and passenger were transported to MercyOne Hospital, and the driver was later life-flighted to the University of Iowa Hospital. The driver and passenger sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and are both in stable condition.

•The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Evansdale Police Department, the Evansdale Fire Department, and the Waterloo Fire Department. The collision remains under investigation.

From the donations, to the honks, waves, conversations, and community support — we truly appreciate every person who came out. Events like this are always a great reminder of how supportive our community is.

A huge thank you as well to Dunkin' Cedar Falls for hosting us and helping make the event possible.

We had a great time (even if K9 Mary still would’ve preferred a nap 😂🐾). Thank you again for helping support an incredible cause and the athletes of Special Olympics Iowa!

Yesterday, Deputy Westerlund graduated from the Western Iowa Tech Community College Regional Law Enforcement Academy.

We are proud of the dedication, hard work, and commitment he has shown throughout the academy, and we are excited to watch him continue to grow in his career here at the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.
