: Bats come in all shapes and sizes! Bats as teeny tiny as a Bumblebee Bat all the way up to the heavyweight, the Giant Golden-crowned Flying Fox. In Iowa, our bats are on the small side. The Little Brown Bat has a wingspan of 8-9in. and weighs 14g - the weight of one empty soda can.
The smallest bat in the world is the Bumblebee Bat with a wingspan of 5.9-6.7in. weighing just 2g - the weight of a penny! The largest bat is the Giant Golden-crowned Flying Fox with a wingspan of 5ft. weighing up to 3lbs - the weight of a standard bag of apples.

FREE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT SET FOR FRIDAY AT SPORTSPLEX
WATERLOO, IA
(August 16, 2023) – The King’s Dream Free Basketball Tournament is being held this Friday, August 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex, located at 300 Jefferson Street.
Anyone 18 and older is eligible to play.

The family-friendly basketball tournament is a collaboration between the City of Waterloo-Neighborhood Services and Boys and Girls Club. The purpose of the event is to strengthen relations between youth organizations and City of Waterloo staff (fire, police, leisure services).

“Something as seemingly simple as a basketball game between diverse groups is a wonderful opportunity to start to bridge the gaps that can exist in our community. Partnering with Boys and Girls Club is a great way to show that we at the City of Waterloo are committed, excited and proud to be involved with King’s Dream- it is what Flying the W is all about!” says Stephanie Shavers, Neighborhood Services Coordinator.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information and to register, contact Stephanie Shavers at 319-291-9415 or [email protected].
