🎓🌟 Celebrating Success Through Partnership and Opportunity! 🌟🎓

Today we had the privilege of recognizing two outstanding students, Bella and Peter, as they graduated from the incredible Waterford High School Transition Program at UConn Avery Point.

This program is a shining example of what can be accomplished when dedicated educators create meaningful opportunities for students to learn, grow, and prepare for their future. A special congratulations and thank you to Waterford Public Schools and Kristin O’Connor for their leadership and commitment to creating such an outstanding transition program. The impact this program has on students and their families is truly remarkable.

A heartfelt thank you as well to former Board of Education Chairwoman Pat Fedor for believing in this vision when it was just an idea. Great programs don’t happen by accident—they begin with people willing to see potential, support innovation, and invest in students’ futures. Your leadership and support helped lay the foundation for the success we celebrate today.

It was an honor to be joined by Waterford Police Department Chief David Ferland, Selectman Rich Muckle and Selectman Greg Attanasio as we presented Town of Waterford Coins to these proud graduates in recognition of their hard work, perseverance, and accomplishments.

Congratulations, Bella and Peter! We are proud of all you have achieved and excited to see what comes next. Your success reflects your determination, the support of your families, and the dedication of the educators who have helped guide your journey.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this program such a success and for helping students build the skills, confidence, and independence needed for their next chapter.

Well done, Bella and Peter! 👏🎓🇺🇸

Dear Millstone Neighbors,

Millstone Unit 2 will be shutting down today for repairs to a non-safety related system. The duration of the repair is unknown at this time. Taking the unit offline sometimes requires the venting of steam, which at times can be noisy. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dominion Energy Community Affairs at [email protected].

🚒🏗️ A Historic Day for Waterford Fire Services! 🏗️🚒

Last week, we officially celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Waterford Fire Station 4 – Oswegatchie, a project that represents our continued commitment to public safety and the future of emergency response in our community.

This milestone would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of so many individuals. A sincere thank you to Oswegatchie Fire Station Building Committee Chairman Bob Tuneski and committee members Rich Muckle, Wayne Gilpan, Rocco Bracciale, Matthew Blankenship, Paul Rafuse, Tim Sullivan, Kathleen Elbaum, Ursula Moreshead and former members Ted Olynciew and Jennifer Bracciale, for their countless hours of planning, collaboration, and commitment to this important project.

A very special thank you to Oswegatchie Fire Company #4 Inc. Chief Chris Pafias and the members of the company for agreeing to the sale of the property that made this project possible. Your partnership and dedication to the future of fire services in Waterford will have a lasting impact for generations to come.

We are excited to work alongside SPA-Silver Petrucelli Architects, Secondino & Sons and Downes Construction as this vision becomes a reality.

I would also like to thank the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, and the Representative Town Meeting, which approved the bonding for this project by a strong 23-3 vote. This unwavering support reflects a shared commitment to investing in critical public safety infrastructure.

Today, Waterford staffs three fire stations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, while the Quaker Hill Fire Station is now staffed Monday through Friday with two part-time Firefighter/EMTs. The new Oswegatchie Station 4 will play a vital role in strengthening emergency response operations in the center of town and ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our growing community.

This groundbreaking is about more than a building, it is about our responsibility to protect you, your families, your homes, and your businesses. It is an investment in safety, preparedness, and the future of Waterford.

I am proud to work alongside Director of Fire Services Chris Haley and the dedicated members of the Waterford Fire Department and Waterford Emergency Management as we continue to move our fire services forward.

🚧 Fencing should be going up very soon, and we look forward to sharing construction updates along the way!

Thank you, Waterford, for your continued support of public safety. 🚒

🎾🏆 Against All Odds. A Tennis Championship for the Ages. 🏆🎾

What the 2026 Waterford Girls Tennis Team accomplished this season is nothing short of extraordinary.

As I followed their incredible run through the Class M State Tournament, I couldn’t help but be reminded of my final season coaching Waterford Girls Soccer in 2013. That year, with just three seniors on the roster, our team accomplished something that had never been done before, we won the first Girls Soccer State Championship in school history.

This year’s Girls Tennis team has now etched its own place in Waterford history.

As the 20th seed, the Lancers began their improbable journey in the qualifying round and never stopped believing. Along the way, they defeated No. 13 New Fairfield, No. 4 Mercy, No. 12 RHAM, and then stunned No. 1 Sacred Heart Academy 4-3 in the semifinals. They capped off their remarkable run yesterday by defeating No. 3 Weston, 4-3, at Amity Regional High School, securing the first state championship in program history in the team’s first-ever championship match appearance.

Perhaps most incredible of all, four of their five tournament victories came by identical 4-3 scores, proving that every point mattered, every player mattered, and every ounce of determination mattered.

As I reflect on this incredible championship, I see so many similarities between this team and our 2013 soccer team. The camaraderie. The dedication. The team-first culture. The overwhelming energy. The refusal to quit. The belief that together they could accomplish something bigger than themselves.

Great teams are not defined solely by talent. They are defined by trust, resilience, and an unwavering belief in one another. Both teams shared those qualities, and both achieved something many thought impossible.

This accomplishment also serves as a reminder that investing in our students matters. Investing in athletics matters. Investing in equal opportunities for female athletes matters. Last year, the Town of Waterford approved my capital request to complete brand-new tennis courts that this championship team proudly calls home. Two decades earlier, the town invested in girls soccer by building us our own on-campus field. Those investments were about more than facilities, they were about believing in our student-athletes and providing them with the resources to succeed.

Equality matters. Sports matter. Teamwork matters. And above all else, believing matters.

Thirteen years after another group of Waterford student-athletes achieved a historic “first,” this remarkable team has given our community another championship story that will be remembered for generations.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, parents, Athletic Department, Board of Education, and everyone who supported this unforgettable journey. And congratulations to the Town of Waterford for continuing to invest in our kids, their education, and their athletic opportunities.

Waterford believed. The team believed. And history was made.

🇺🇸⛲ Veterans Memorial Fountain Repair Notice ⛲🇺🇸

After a long wait, repairs to the Veterans Memorial Fountain are scheduled to begin and are expected to take approximately 7–10 days to complete.

During this time, we kindly ask residents and visitors to avoid the immediate work area for their safety and to allow crews to complete the repairs efficiently.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to restore this important feature of our Veterans Memorial. We look forward to seeing the fountain back in operation soon and continuing to honor those who have served our nation. 🇺🇸

⚛️ Thank You to the Nuclear Energy Advisory Council (NEAC) ⚛️

Thank you to the Waterford members of the Nuclear Energy Advisory Council (NEAC) for their continued commitment to our community and for meeting regularly with representatives from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Dominion Energy Millstone Power Station to review Millstone’s Annual Report.

These meetings provide an important opportunity to discuss plant operations, safety, emergency preparedness, environmental stewardship, and the ongoing impact Millstone has on Waterford and the region. Open communication, transparency, and public engagement remain critical components of maintaining public confidence in one of Connecticut’s most important energy facilities.

I was proud to attend the meeting and I appreciate the time, dedication, and thoughtful questions our NEAC members bring to these discussions on behalf of Waterford residents. Your willingness to stay informed and engaged helps ensure that our community continues to have a strong voice in conversations involving Millstone’s operations and future.

Thank you to the NRC, Millstone leadership, and all NEAC members for your partnership and commitment to keeping Waterford informed.
