Feeding Programs
The Food Pantry provides food for those unemployed or who have fallen through the cracks. We assist them in preventing utility shut-off rental assistance and provide them with food, clothing, furniture, and holiday assistance (food, clothing, and toys). Through our Corps, we use volunteers to assist in stocking our pantry, sorting clothing, packing food, collecting clothing and toys, and aiding in distribution. Family Emergency Shelter
A nine-room, 30-bed family shelter is open 24/7/365. The Family shelter provides a temporary, safe place for families to stay during their housing crisis. The shelter provides case management, daily hygiene products, an on-site laundry facility, and three meals a day for the residents. All families in need of this service should call 211. Youth Music Program
This program offers music classes for children, including brass instrument instruction and singing. The program’s age group is seven-years-old and up. Its purpose is to improve not only musical skills but also social skills. All performance pieces are Christian-based, so children can grow spiritually and mentally. Our staff/volunteers are dedicated to helping children find their musical talents and developing them, encouraging participants to share what makes them unique. Opportunities for public performance and contests are offered so that children can experience personal achievement. Holiday Programs
We distributed 300 Thanksgiving Food boxes and 4,000 Christmas Toys for 800 kids during this past holiday season. With the help and generosity of businesses, schools, social groups, churches, and individuals, we provided happiness to those in need during the holiday season. Summer Camp
Camp CONNRI is situated on 272 acres of rolling hills in Ashford, Connecticut. Campers enjoy a wide variety of activities for a week, including swimming, hiking, fishing, boating, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, nature studies, arts and crafts, and much more. Greater Waterbury sponsored more than 20 children for summer camp this year.

National Donut Day 2026 was a tremendous success across Connecticut & Rhode Island! Salvation Army officers, staff, and volunteers spent the day delivering donuts and words of appreciation to veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, community partners, and community members throughout the state.

Every stop was an opportunity to share the story of the Donut Lassies and continue a tradition that began more than 100 years ago on the front lines of World War I.

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate, serve, and spread a little joy along the way. We loved seeing the smiles, hearing the stories, and honoring those who serve our communities every day.

Thank you again to Lyman Orchards!

Until next year, Donut Day! 🍩❤️

Another successful Donut Day is in the books, thanks to the generosity of our community partners. A heartfelt thank you to Lyman Orchards for donating 700 fresh donuts, helping us celebrate this cherished Salvation Army tradition in a meaningful way. Salvation Army officers from across Connecticut picked up their donuts this morning and will be sharing them with veterans at VA hospitals throughout the state.

As we celebrate, we also honor the legacy of The Salvation Army's Donut Lassies. During World War I, these courageous women served alongside soldiers near the front lines, providing comfort, encouragement, and of course, fresh donuts. What began as a simple gesture of care more than a century ago has grown into the National Donut Day tradition we continue today.

Today is about more than donuts. It's about remembering those who served, honoring those who continue to serve, and sharing a moment of kindness with our veterans. We're proud to carry on that tradition and grateful to everyone helping make it possible.

Happy National Donut Day! 🍩❤️

Did you know this sweet tradition began with The Salvation Army? During World War I, Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” served donuts to soldiers as a simple reminder of home, comfort, and hope.

Today, we celebrate that legacy of love, service, and joy — one donut at a time
