It’s that time of year again!

The Pink Out Day Press Conference will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at the Waterbury Fire Department Station 10, 26 Field Street at 11:00am.

Pink Out’s goal is to raise funds, promote awareness, and ensure the community that our facilities have the resources to provide breast health services to women in need. 100% of funds raised support the Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation’s Breast Patient Fund. Last year more than $60,000 was raised to provide free screening, diagnostic, and essential breast health services to more than 150 local women.

We are proud to announce that this year’s Pink Out T-shirt design was created by Waterbury Public Schools student Zoey Bernardini.

Zoey’s design was inspired by her mother, Wendy Bernardini, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2025. Wendy has shown incredible strength, courage, and positivity throughout her journey.

In Zoey’s words, her mother is “strong and unstoppable,” always putting her family first while continuing to work and care for those she loves. Through this design, Zoey honors her mother’s resilience and the inspiration she provides every day.

We are honored to feature Zoey’s artwork on this year’s Pink Out T-shirt and extend our gratitude to her family for sharing their story.

Cheers to 20 years of the Brass City Brew Fest!

Library Park was the place to be Saturday as Main Street Waterbury celebrated the 20th anniversary of this longtime Waterbury tradition. From great b**r and other beverages to live music, food, games and plenty of community spirit, it was a great afternoon in downtown Waterbury.

And of course, there was a winner! Congratulations to Santopietro Brewing of Naugatuck who took first place at this year's Brew Fest!

The City of Waterbury is proud to support Main Street Waterbury and the work they do to strengthen and revitalize our downtown.

Congratulations to everyone who helped make the 20th anniversary Brass City Brew Fest a success, and cheers to many more years!

Today, we gathered as a community to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years later, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the families who continue to carry that loss, and recognize the brave first responders and service members who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy. While September 11 remains one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, it also reminds us of the strength, compassion, and unity that followed. In Waterbury and across the country, people came together to support one another, proving that even in our most difficult moments, community endures. As more generations grow up without personal memories of that day, we have a responsibility to ensure they understand not only what happened, but also the courage, kindness, and resilience that emerged in its aftermath. Today, we remember. We honor. We stand together. And we reaffirm our commitment never to forget.

Did you know that Luvata, located on Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury, produces 33% of the world’s copper used in E-Mobility, Healthcare, and Electrification & Green Transition products?

Mayor Pernerewski, Chief of Staff Joe Geary, and Economic Development Director Joe McGrath recently toured Luvata’s manufacturing facility to learn more about the innovative work happening right here in the Brass City. Companies like Luvata show that Waterbury’s proud manufacturing legacy remains an important part of our economic future, supporting jobs, investment, and innovation while producing materials used around the world.

Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. invites the Waterbury community to gather in solemn remembrance as we mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

Together, we will honor the lives lost, remember the families and communities forever changed, and pay tribute to the first responders and all those who demonstrated extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the face of tragedy.

We invite residents to join us as we pause to remember, reflect, and honor those we will never forget.

Labor Day Holiday Refuse Collection Schedule

The City of Waterbury Bureau of Refuse is reminding residents that there will be changes to the regular trash and recycling collection schedule in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The following schedule will be in effect:
- Monday, September 7: No trash or recycling collection. Monday’s regular collection will take place on Tuesday, September 8.

- Tuesday, September 8: Tuesday’s regular collection will take place on Wednesday, September 9.

-Wednesday, September 9: Regular collection schedule resumes.

The Mark Lane Transfer Facility will also be closed on Saturday, September 5, and will reopen on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00 a.m.

Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and make any necessary arrangements for trash and recycling disposal around the holiday schedule.

This past Saturday, The UnGroup Society hosted the 13th Annual Greater Waterbury Spirit of Unity Festival at Library Park, bringing residents together for a day of community and celebration! Mayor Pernerewski joined the festivities and presented members of The UnGroup Society with a citation recognizing their continued dedication to organizing this event and serving our community.

Thank you to The UnGroup Society for continuing to bring Waterbury together, and to everyone who came out and enjoyed another great Spirit of Unity Festival!

What started as a simple summer lemonade stand has grown into an inspiring local success story!

J&J Lemonade, founded by young entrepreneurs Jeremiah and Josiah, was inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit in their family. With encouragement from their parents’ trucking business and their sister Anayah’s dog walking and grooming business, the brothers decided it was time to build something of their own.Thanks to the incredible support of the Waterbury community, their lemonade stand quickly grew, with Anayah joining the team. Together, they’ve learned valuable lessons in business, marketing, customer service, financial responsibility, teamwork, and hard work.

The Mayor’s Office was proud to recognize Jeremiah, Josiah, and Anayah for their entrepreneurial spirit and determination. Their story is a great reminder that you’re never too young to dream big, work hard, and turn an idea into something special!
