As temperatures warm up across the Mat-Su Valley, more people are heading to our lakes, rivers, and streams to enjoy Alaska's beautiful outdoors. Before you go, take a few simple steps to stay safe:

✅ Always wear a life jacket when boating, paddling, or fishing near the water.
✅ Keep a close eye on children and never leave them unattended near water.
✅ Be aware that Alaska's waters remain dangerously cold, even on warm days. Cold water can quickly lead to shock and hypothermia.
✅ Avoid alcohol when participating in water activities.
✅ Check weather and water conditions before heading out.
✅ Have a plan and let someone know where you're going and when you expect to return.

A fun day on the water can turn into an emergency in seconds. Taking simple precautions can save lives.
