🧺 The Heart of the Home: Elizabeth Van Vleet
If Lewis built the foundation, Elizabeth built the soul. ❤️
Pioneer life was a constant act of "shepherding" a family through untamed land. While Lewis mapped the wilderness, Elizabeth turned a rugged land claim into a welcoming, thriving home for everyone who crossed their threshold.
🕵️‍♂️ THE QUEST: Elizabeth’s clues are hidden in the "small things"—the everyday household items that tell the biggest stories. Can you find what she left behind?
📅 July 31 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
📍 Check our pinned post for the event page link and details!

📜 Clues are hidden in plain sight…
Step back into 1878. The very tools used to carve out a community are waiting to tell their story. ⚙️🌳
On July 31st, you will need to think like a detective. Look closely at the "Witness Trees" and the old iron tools left behind by our earliest pioneers. Every artifact holds a secret. Are you ready for the challenge?
💬 LET'S PLAY A GAME: What every day pioneer item do you think Elizabeth used the most to keep her home running?
A) A heavy cast-iron skillet 🍳
B) A hand-cranked butter churn 🧈
C) A spinning wheel for wool 🧶
Drop your guess (A, B, or C) in the comments below! 👇 We will reveal the answer during the heritage trail quest!

⚓ Partner Spotlight: The Foundation of our Future! ⚓
Today we are shining a light on our most vital partner: the of Camas-Washougal.
Without the Port’s vision and commitment to "shepherding" this historic land, the Parkersville National Historic Site wouldn't be the community treasure it is today. From maintaining the beautiful grounds of Parker’s Landing to supporting our Advisory Committee (PAC), the Port ensures our local history has a permanent home.
🕵️‍♂️ Quest Detail: This year, we are coordinating closely with Port CEO Trang Lam and her team to bring you the best Parkersville Heritage Fair—perfectly timed to lead right into the Port’s summer concert at Marina Park!
We are honored to work alongside a team that values both the industrial future of our region and the deep pioneer roots of our past.
👇 Let’s give a big "Thank You" to the of Camas-Washougal for keeping our heritage standing!

God Bless the USA!
Memorial Day Weekend is a wonderful time to connect with family members that are no longer with us on this earth. I have just returned from the Fern Prairie Cemetery. A special program presented by VFW. This place became very important to me learning about my Van Vleet Heritage last August in this area. It has been a wonderful experience, and meeting first of all Susan Tripp, and now many others who I can't begin to name everyone! From that first email message to Susan I had no idea it would put me where I am today, over this fun activity event that Susan started 4 years ago and a lot of work. Come meet my family members who are traveling from other states to act in first person some the the Van Vleet's who were instrumental in setttling Parkers Landing. We have a full line up of fun, happy moments. Other groups besides the Van Vleet's will be also at the park. Tell your friends and neighbors and come see us this July 31 4-6:00 PM. You might as well stay and make it an afternoon and evening fun summertime activity. Concert featuring 5 guys named Moe.
This is for all ages and free fun. You might get hungry so vendors will provide! Vendors are not free.

📏 The Man Who Measured the Future: Lewis Van Vleet, Sr.
In 1854, Parkersville was founded—but it was Lewis Van Vleet who saw what it could truly become. A surveyor by trade, he didn’t just look at the land; he measured the potential of our community.
He "shepherded" this town through its earliest days, ensuring that the roots planted here would be strong enough to last for generations.
🕵️‍♂️ Quest Detail: Lewis’s survey marks are the very first clues in our story. To solve the Van Vleet Quest, you’ll need to think like a surveyor.
