The North Alexander School in Washington — known locally as NASA (North Alexander School Association) — is a historic landmark with deep roots in our community.

Built in 1897 and designed by renowned architect R.H. Hunt, the school was part of a growing movement to expand public education in Georgia. It served students for decades before closing in 1972.

Today, the building stands as a centerpiece of preservation efforts. NASA is working to restore the school as a regional hub for education, culture, and community programs — bringing new life to this beautiful historic space.

With its classic schoolhouse design and rich legacy, North Alexander School reflects both the architectural heritage and long tradition of learning in Washington-Wilkes County.

🏫 Tours of the school will be available during the Spring Tour of Homes
🕙 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM 📆 Saturday, April 4th

The Episcopal Church of the Mediator was founded in 1868 and is especially known for its 33 stained glass panels created by the studio of Wilbur H. Burnham, a noted 19th-century stained-glass designer. These richly colored windows illuminate the sanctuary and remain one of the most distinctive artistic and historic features of the church. A special presentation of the stained glass windows will be given at 1pm during the Spring Tour of Homes.

The Washington congregation was formally organized in 1819, and the current brick sanctuary was constructed between 1907 and 1910. Known for its historic architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows, the church has played an important role in the spiritual and community life of Washington for more than two centuries.
