📊 March 2026 Monthly Activity Report 📊

March was an extremely active and productive month for Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS, highlighted by increased call volume, extensive training, and continued improvements in service delivery.

🚑 Our second Paramedic-level ambulance continues to make a significant impact on our ability to serve the community. During the month of March, there were 126 instances where both ambulances were on separate 911 responses at the same time — a 39% overlap in EMS calls.

Without the addition of this second unit, we would have relied on Mutual Aid EMS at least 63 times. This clearly demonstrates how this resource is improving response capability, reducing reliance on outside agencies, and ensuring faster, more reliable care for our citizens.

🔥 Training remained a major focus throughout the month:
• All personnel completed our Spring Semi-Annual Facility Training, focusing on victim search and rescue in low-visibility fire conditions
• Our Water Rescue Team participated in multiple specialized training opportunities:

Training with NC Ferry Service in Bayview alongside NC Marine Patrol, practicing ferry vessel operations including victim removal and fire suppression support
Training in Pamlico County with NC HART (Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team), focusing on helicopter-based water rescue operations

🎓 We are proud to recognize that 7 members obtained their Fire Instructor II certification this month. These members are enhancing their ability to deliver high-quality training within our department while also helping mentor new employees and the next generation of firefighters.

🏢 Additionally, 4 members obtained their Level II Fire Inspector certifications. Having certified inspectors on shift, in addition to our Fire Marshal’s Office, strengthens our ability to enforce fire codes and helps ensure a safer community for our residents and visitors.

We are proud of the continued dedication of our members and appreciate the ongoing support from our community as we strive to provide the highest level of service.

Forever training… We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to train along side the NC Marine Patrol on approaching a ferry while underway. The training focused on approach, boarding and fire control of a moving vessel.

📊 January 2026 Monthly Activity Report 📊

January was a busy and productive month for Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS. In addition to responding to calls for service and completing 891 hours of training, we made a significant operational improvement for our community.

đźš‘ On January 5th, we placed our second Paramedic-level ambulance in service.

Since that date, we have experienced a 19% overlap in EMS responses, meaning both of our ambulances were actively handling separate calls at the same time. Prior to placing this second unit in service, those overlapping calls — 56 total incidents — would have required us to rely on mutual aid EMS.

The impact has been immediate:
• Mutual Aid EMS utilized only 11 times in January
• Compared to 48 times in December

This reduction means more calls are being handled by your Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS personnel, improving availability and strengthening advanced life support coverage within our city.

We appreciate the continued support from our community and City leadership as we work to enhance service delivery and ensure the highest level of care when you need us most.

Help us get our first responders home safely to their families during this winter storm. ❄️⛄

This is Ash. Ash's people (City of Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS) will be working hard to keep everyone safe this weekend. He's kindly asking you to stay off the roads to help:
-Reduce accidents
-Allow trucks to safely plow
-Keep traffic clear for police, fire, rescue and EMS to respond to emergencies.

Please and thank you. 🙏

Please join us in congratulating Division Chief Steven Hodges and Battalion Chief Jonathan Patterson for graduating from the UNC-Charlotte Fire & Rescue Management Institute.

This is a four month program that covers leadership & teambuilding, management skills & personnel management, strategic planning, and communication skills.

They dedicated many days away from their families to complete the program and they are to be commended for a job well done.
