🎉 Washington Township Fire Department Welcomes New Firefighter! 🚒

Washington Township Trustee is proud to announce that Jackson Clymer was officially sworn in as a new firefighter with the Washington Township Fire Department on August 20, 2026.

Jackson is currently attending Vincennes University (VU) for Fire Science and also serves with the Veal Township Fire Department. He is a graduate of Washington High School.

He comes from a strong tradition of public service. His father, Chris Clymer, is a firefighter for the City, and his mother, Jennifer Clymer, works at Boyd and Sons.

Please join us in welcoming Jackson to the department and congratulating him as he begins this important journey of serving our community.

Yesterday was National 811 day. 811 is the number that is used to for underground utility locating. Any time you plan to dig you need to make sure and call 811 two business days before the planed work. Always remember to dig safely.

Training Night at Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department 🚒

The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department completed Heavy Rescue Training on Thursday, August 6, at the District Training Center. Our members spent the evening sharpening their rescue skills and working together to better serve our community.

We were also excited to welcome several new faces interested in becoming future volunteers. It’s always encouraging to see members of our community step forward with a desire to serve.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and to those considering joining our department. Together, we’re building a stronger, safer future for Washington Township.

On Tuesday morning, Washington Township responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Highway 50 just west of Washington. Crews arrived to find a vehicle with heavy fire in the engine compartment. All occupants were able to safely exit the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

Last week you may have seen several different fire trucks at Eastside Park. Departments from around the country participated in pump testing. This testing ensures that each fire truck's pump is working properly for extended periods of time.

INDOT has State Road 257 south of US Highway 50 near County Road 150 S closed for bridge repair. They estimate this will take 2 weeks. You can still get to Pike County on State Road 257.
