We lost a wonderful longtime volunteer, but heaven gained a new resident

Linwood Ray Peede passed in the early morning on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 in Greenville, NC. He was 82 years old, but you would never know it watching him walk and play 18 holes of golf. Born in Winterville, NC, he spent most of childhood and adult life in Raleigh

Eagle’s Wings Food Pantry will be OPEN Tuesday, February 3 , assuming weather conditions hold.

Pantry hours are as usual: 9am-11pm and 2-4pm.

We will monitor the forecast tomorrow and share an update regarding our schedule for Tuesday’s Pantry day.

The City of Washington has announced that all City offices and facilities will be closed Monday due to the extreme weather. Beaufort County officials are also urging all residents to avoid unnecessary travel through noon Tuesday to assist road crews and prevent accidents.

Key Safety & Travel Concerns for Monday:

Impassable Roads:
While NCDOT is working to clear primary highways, secondary and side roads remain snow-covered and "impassable". In Beaufort County, even primary roads are currently reported as snow/ice-covered.

Refreezing & Black Ice: Although some melting may occur during the day, temperatures will drop into the teens and single digits tonight. Any moisture on the roads will refreeze into dangerous black ice, especially during the Monday morning commute.

Life-Threatening Cold:
An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until 10 AM Monday, with wind chills potentially dropping to 5-10 degrees below zero. This creates a high risk of hypothermia for anyone stranded on the road.

We are in need of volunteers at our warehouse on Mondays and Wednesdays after 11:00 a.m.

We also need volunteer drivers on Mondays to deliver food to our homebound clients. Homebound clients are individuals who are physically unable to come to the pantry to pick up their food.

Serving others is a blessing, and your time can make a real difference for families in our community. If you are able to help, or if you know someone who might be interested, please send us a direct message or come by the pantry and fill out a volunteer application.
