*UPDATE*
Duke Energy reported that the issue has been resolved and Washington Light and Power customers should not be experiencing any issues.

Due to an issue with Duke Energy’s transmission lines, customers served by Washington Light and Power may experience flickering lights and intermittent power interruptions.

We have been in contact with Duke Energy, and they have confirmed the issue. Their crews are working to identify and correct the problem.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this issue is being resolved.

Weekend Power Outage⚡️

Washington Light & Power would like to provide an update regarding the power outages that occurred over the weekend.

After an extensive investigation, our crews identified the source of the issue Saturday evening. A connection had failed due to excessive amperage being carried on one phase of the Central Circuit. This failed connection was responsible for the power outages and power quality issues experienced by customers in the affected area.

A permanent repair was completed Monday morning at the corner of NE 11th Street and Cosby Road. While on site, our crews also performed preventive maintenance on nearby equipment to improve the reliability of the circuit and help reduce the likelihood of future issues.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our lineworkers for their dedication to keeping the lights on for our community. Working on energized lines carrying 7,200 volts requires extensive training, skill, and an unwavering commitment to safety. They understand that when the power goes out, our customers are counting on them, and they take that responsibility seriously.

As a public power utility, Washington Light & Power remains committed to providing dependable electric service while keeping rates affordable. We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding as we continue working to maintain and improve the reliability of our electric system.
