🏈🇺🇸 THE WAR ON 74 IS BIGGER THAN FOOTBALL! 🇺🇸🏈

Washington Student Council is proud to partner with the Purcell Student Council as we carry forward the history and tradition of the War on 74!

Goldsby Construction recently met with both student councils and officially passed the torch to our students. Together, they are collaborating to build this friendly rivalry into something even bigger and better while keeping its meaningful purpose at the heart of the tradition.

The War on 74 has always honored our veterans, and it always will. Moving forward, it will also provide an opportunity for our two communities to recognize and support the hometown heroes who serve others every day.

Tonight, Washington and Purcell students are coming together to collect donations for the Washington Volunteer Fire Department in memory of Goldsby firefighters Todd Pendleton and Bryan Jenkins, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

We could not be more honored to partner with Purcell for a rivalry that brings our communities together, teaches our students the importance of service, and reminds us that some things are much bigger than ourselves and more important than the final score.

Two towns. One road. One trophy. One shared commitment to honoring our hometown heroes.

September is Su***de Prevention Month

Washington Middle School Leadership students are helping bring awareness to an important message this month: you matter, you are not alone, and it is always okay to ask for help.

Our students are learning that sometimes the people around us may be facing struggles we cannot see.

A kind word, including someone, checking on a friend, or simply letting someone know they are valued can make a difference.

Throughout September, our Leadership students will be helping share messages of hope, kindness, connection, and encouragement throughout the middle school.

At Washington Middle School, we want every Warrior to know they have people in their corner. 💜

Be kind. Check on your people. Speak up when you need help. You matter.

It’s one thing to read about history. It’s another to actually hold a piece of it in your hands.

Mrs. Vickie Schmidt’s 7th Grade ELA students are currently reading The President Has Been Shot!, a nonfiction account of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

7th grader James Morton brought something pretty incredible to share with the class, an actual Dallas Times Herald newspaper from November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated.

The students were able to see the newspaper firsthand and how the events they are reading about were reported that day. What a neat opportunity to take something they are learning about in a book and connect it to an actual piece of history.

A big thank-you to James and his family for trusting the class with something so special and allowing Mrs. Schmidt and her students to share in this piece of history. ❤️🖤

❤️🖤 THE MAC IS BACK! 🖤❤️

We are thrilled to announce that the newly renovated Larry J. McAlister Gymnasium is officially back open!

Beginning Thursday, September 10, all middle school students should be dropped off at the McAlister Gymnasium and report there first thing in the morning. Students should no longer be dropped off at the Event Center.

Washington Public Schools is thankful to our community for its continued support and for passing the recent bond, which allowed us to update one of our legacy sites.

Thank you for investing in our district and in our future!

WAR on 74 Honoring our Hometown Heroes

🇺🇸🔥 Washington and Purcell Student Councils, Washington High School administration, and Goldsby Construction recently met to discuss the continuation of the War on 74—a tradition built on friendly competition, mutual respect, and community support. 🏈❤️🖤

Originally introduced to our communities by Goldsby Construction, the War on 74 has become a meaningful tradition. We are honored to have been asked to help carry it forward while creating a lasting direction for its future. 🤝

🚨 This Friday night, we will honor our hometown heroes, including the first responders who serve our communities every day.

We will also remember Goldsby volunteer firefighters Todd Pendleton and Bryan Jenkins, who recently lost their lives in the line of duty. 👨‍🚒🕊️

Donations will benefit the Washington Volunteer Fire Department in their memory. Firefighters and first responders from Goldsby, Washington, and Purcell will also be recognized during the event. 🚒🚓🚑

🇺🇸 To honor the origins of the War on 74 and the traditions that have made this rivalry special, Washington Student Council will donate this year’s T-shirt proceeds to the American Legion.

📣 Additional information will be provided soon. Whether you are from Purcell or Washington, please bring cash to Friday night’s game to help honor our first responders and support this meaningful cause. 💵❤️

🏈 We look forward to working with Purcell Student Council and meeting on Purcell’s home turf next year as we continue this tradition: two schools, two communities, one highway, and one rivalry supporting a great cause. 🔥

This is about much more than competition. It is about community, respect, remembrance, and honoring the people who serve and protect us. 🙏🇺🇸

❤️ Thank you to all of our hometown heroes. We look forward to honoring them Friday night and recognizing the sacrifices they make for our communities. 🚨👨‍🚒🇺🇸
