In March 2006, while piloting a Kiowa Warrior helicopter in Iraq, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Lori Hill encountered intense enemy fire during a mission with the 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment.

When the lead chopper came under attack, she positioned her aircraft to draw the fire away, delivering suppressive fire to protect the ground troops engaged below.

An RPG struck her helicopter, damaging its instruments, but she maintained communication with the forces on the ground and continued providing aerial support until the soldiers reached safety.

Moments later, machine-gun fire hit the aircraft, wounding her ankle, yet she managed to land safely at Forward Operating Base Normandy, saving her crew and the helicopter.

For these heroic actions, Hill was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

God Bless this American hero!๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
