Hurricane Preparedness Week starts this Sunday May 3rd and runs through Saturday May 9th.

The first step of preparing for hurricanes is to know your risk. Find out today what types of water and wind hazards could happen where you live. Hurricanes are not just a coastal problem. Impacts from wind and water can be felt hundreds of miles inland, and significant impacts can occur regardless of the stormโ€™s strength. Know if you live in an area prone to flooding, if you live in an evacuation zone, and identify any structural weaknesses in your home.

We invite you to join the City of Washington in observing National Denim Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, with a brief community ceremony at 10:00 AM on the steps of City Hall.

National Denim Day, recognized each April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, is a worldwide campaign that encourages individuals to wear denim as a visible statement against victim blaming and in support of survivors of sexual violence. What began following a 1999 Italian Supreme Court ruling has grown into a powerful international movement focused on awareness, education, and support.

In partnership with the Human Relations Council, the City of Washington will host a short ceremony to acknowledge the significance of this day and reaffirm our shared commitment to supporting survivors and promoting a culture of respect and accountability within our community.

We would love for you to stand with us in support of this important cause. We encourage all attendees to wear denim as a symbol of unity. Your continued partnership and support help make initiatives like this meaningful and impactful for our community. We hope you can join us.
