Upcoming Quilters' Sew-In
The Washington Senior Center Quilter' s Organization is having their Annual Sew-In (this is a come and go event) at the Town of Washington Community Center, located at 219 N. Turner, Washington, Oklahoma on both Friday January 27th from 4pm-9pm and again on Saturday January 28th from 9am-4pm . There will be pot-luck meals on Friday at supper and lunch on Saturday , door prizes will be given out every 30 minutes to one-hour throughout the Sew-In Event. The participants will be making tote-bags and tying quilts. All people who can sew, or who are wanting to learn to sew, or people who can iron-out seams flat are all welcome. It is a very fun time, a learning event, and great story telling time among all the people participating. If you have any questions, please contact Alice Brooks at 405-808-6121.
Many of the quilters at Washington Senior Citizen Quilters Organization at the Washington Community Center also participate as members of the Washington Chapter of OHCE (Oklahoma Home and Community Educators). Together they made over 250 'Positive Bags ,' which are sewn 12"x12" bags with two straps , that are donated to pregnant women. These positive bags are filled with items to prepare them for parenthood. The bags contain information for preparing for the arrival of their unborn child, pacifier, diapers, typical baby things, a Holy Bible, and information on where they can obtain volunteer services through their pregnancy. Eden Clinic and Hope Center are both facilities promoting "Choosing Life, rather than choosing abortion." Both organizations receive these 'positive bags' made by the Sew-In Groups/Volunteers , who then fill them with information and supplies then distribute them. Additionally, in December right before Christmas, these quilters made over 70 winter blankets for Disabled Adults.
The sewing machines, materials, and supplies are all provided at the Center. This is a great opportunity to be a part of helping your community and those in need. Please plan at least a couple hours on your busy schedules for the upcoming Sew-In on January 27 and 28, 2023!!! Everyone is welcome! [If unexpected bad weather is on this weekend, it will be automatically moved to the next weekend.]
