Washington Terrace City

Washington Terrace City Serving the citizens and businesses of Washington Terrace City. The purpose of this page is to present matters of public interest to residents and visitors.

Established in the 1940's as a place for military servicemen to bring their families, Washington Terrace quickly grew into a full service city. After the war, because of its ideal location and beauty, the families elected to stay, and the city of Washington Terrace continued to grow and expand, until it finally became the city it is today. Have you heard that multiple local reservoirs have Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) right now? Ew, nasty! HABs can hurt people and pets, prevent us from playing in the water, and can kill fish and other aquatic life. Bad news, right? What we do in our neighborhoods can either hurt or help HABs in the nearby waterways. We all know that nutrients (specifically nitrogen and phosphorus) fuel HABs, but what does nutrient pollution look like?

Fertilizer: Follow directions and sweep up fertilizer on the pavement
Pet waste: Clean it up and put it in the trash
Green waste: Sweep grass clippings out of the street & gutters and rake up leaves
Dirt: Sediment often carries nutrients with it. Sweep it up, keep out of gutters.
Detergents: Wash your car at a commercial carwash. If washing it at home is a must, do it on your lawn to prevent runoff.

Once any of these things go down a storm drain, they dump out into nearby waterbodies with no treatment. Pollution into the storm drain = pollution into the Weber River.
