End the Embargo on Cuba

End the Embargo on Cuba END THE EMBARGO ON CUBA! Help us write into law the new policy toward Cuba that President Obama has enacted by executive order and regulatory changes.

For more than half a century the U.S. embargo on Cuba has been a failed and unjust policy that restricts American liberties and hurts Cuban families. In a new climate of diplomacy between our two nations, join us in advocating for a change in policy written into law. We’ve moved beyond our “End the Travel Ban” campaign to a new and exciting “End the Embargo on Cuba” campaign. Bring common sense ba

ck to our Cuba policy! Join the cause. Tell your friends. And stay informed on what YOU can do. End the Embargo on Cuba is a campaign of the Latin America Working Group, a coalition-based organization that works to promote policies toward Latin America that reflect a commitment to human rights, justice, and peace in the region. A coalition of groups from across the country who support the normalization of relations between the United States and Cuba worked in tandem to encourage members of Congress to sign a letter urging President Biden to take immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis in Cuba. As a result of their collective effort and non-stop outreach, calls and emails, representatives heard from their constituents that they want a change in U.S. policy towards Cuba!

A total of 114 representatives, including 18 committee chairs, signed on.

THANK YOU to all who have called, emailed and spoken with members of Congress asking them to sign the letter led by Reps. James P. McGovern (D-MA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Gregory Meeks (D-NY), and Bobby Rush (D-IL). Thanks to you, we are now at 93 sign-ons! This far surpasses our original goal of getting more than the 80 who signed a similar letter in March, and now we want to pass 100. As a result, the deadline for sign-ons to the letter has been extended one final time to this Friday, Dec. 10. It will not be extended after that.

As December 17 nears - the anniversary of re-engagement and reestablishing diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba - now is a great time to remind members of Congress of the common sense policy of cooperation, not isolation. If we can reach 111 signatures on the letter, that would be over half of the House Democratic caucus. The target list for those who may be more accessible can be found here.

In order to help us reach the 100 mark, ACERE is hosting a virtual “Let’s Call Congress Advocacy Hour” this Wednesday, from 1:00 - 2:00pm EST. They will review outreach strategies on reaching out to members of Congress and their offices, share sample scripts and emails and will also call/email members directly. Please sign-up to participate here!

Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: ACERE Advocacy Call. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

"Cuba said on Thursday its two-shot Soberana 2 vaccine, delivered with a booster called Soberana Plus, had proven 91.2% effective in late stage clinical trials against the coronavirus, following similar news about its Abdala vaccine."

Cuba is the first country in Latin American and the Caribbean to successfully develop to successfully develop a coronavirus vaccine, and if its results are corroborated, it would catapult the island nation into the select group of the United States, Germany and Russia that produce vaccines with efficacy of more than 90%.

Cuba said on Thursday its two-shot Soberana 2 vaccine, delivered with a booster called Soberana Plus, had proven 91.2% effective in late stage clinical trials against the coronavirus, following similar news about its Abdala vaccine. The announcement came from state-run biopharmaceutical corporation....

If President Biden really wants to help the Cuban people, he can start by restoring diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba. Time is of the essence as Cubans struggle to stay afloat in the middle of an economic and humanitarian crisis, the effects of which have been felt more strongly under the pandemic. We stand with them as they demand for their government to address their dire needs.

We must show the White House that a majority of Americans support engagement with our island neighbor. That starts with YOU.
