Last week, DPW crews were out across all eight wards delivering the service DC residents count on.
From collection routes to neighborhood maintenance, our crews kept working to make a visible difference throughout the District. Here’s what DPW accomplished for the week ending September 4:

🗑️ Collected 1,631.99 tons of garbage
♻️ Collected 470.63 tons of recycling
🛋️ Collected 297.48 tons of bulk trash
🧹 Cleaned 317 alleys
🌱 Mowed 323 locations
🎨 Removed graffiti from 146 locations

🌳 Following last Thursday’s storm, DPW also cleared and processed 186 tons of tree material at Fort Totten Transfer Station as crews worked to address storm-related impacts across the District.

These numbers represent more than just weekly totals. They reflect the efficiency, hard work, and commitment our employees bring to their jobs every day.

👀 Bigbellies are making a BIG impact in the District! DPW is piloting new enclosed Bigbelly trash cans across the District, bringing smarter, cleaner trash collection to DC.
These bins feature a built-in sensor that alerts crews when it’s full, helping us collect based on need, not just a fixed schedule.

📡 Smart sensors let crews know when a bin is full, helping us collect when it’s actually needed.
🐀 Sealed tight to help keep rats out.
🚯 Enclosed design helps discourage illegal dumping.
🦶 Easy to use: pull the lid open or step on the pedal.
