One flag. Five days. 250 miles. 🇺🇸

Starting today, our allies at wear blue: run to remember and Team Red, White & Blue begin carrying a single American flag from New York City to Washington, D.C.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11 and the 250th anniversary of the United States. Every step honors those who gave their lives in service to our country, every mile honors all who have served, and every hand that carries the flag honors those who continue to serve.

Twenty five years ago, our Nation was attacked.

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 innocent lives were taken in cowardly acts of terrorism intended to bring fear to the American people.

But amid the tragedy, America witnessed extraordinary courage.

Firefighters climbed stairwells others were fleeing. Police officers, first responders, military personnel, and everyday Americans ran toward danger because someone needed help. Passengers aboard Flight 93 confronted evil themselves.

In one of our Nation’s darkest hours, Americans showed the world who we are.

When confronted by fear, they chose courage.

When faced with chaos, they chose selfless service.

When others were in danger, they stepped forward.

Today, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of those who answered.

Twenty five years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

More than 30,000 active-duty service members and post-9/11 veterans have died by su***de since the Global War on Terrorism began.

Andrew Marckesano is one of them. A Green Beret, a Silver Star and Bronze Star recipient, and the kind of teammate who never let his men feel alone. After many deployments, he carried home more than any of us can understand. In 2020, he took his own life.

Behind every one of those 30,000 people is a spouse, daughter, son, mother, father, or someone who bears the loss of someone they loved. Military service and combat leave lasting effects on veterans that aren't always visible and don't always heal without help.

Andrew’s mother, Kat Marckesano, shares his story so his loss is met with recognition, not silence.

GWOTMF Honorary Chairman, President George W. Bush will headline the program with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to share reflections on the legacy and meaning of September 11, how it changed our Nation, and how the call to serve continues today. This year marks 25 years since September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our Nation and called generations to serve and sacrifice.

Our Chief of Staff, Jennifer Ballou, attended "Remembrance to Renewal", an event hosted by the Military Women's Memorial and held at Amazon’s HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia. Through personal stories and thoughtful conversation, the evening reflected on the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the profound impact of the 25 years that followed.

For Jen, it was a meaningful opportunity to stand with a community deeply connected to September 11 and honor the service, sacrifice, and resilience that continue to define the GWOT generations.

Congratulations to our friends at the National Medal of Honor Museum on the unanimous passage of the Hershel “Woody” Williams National Medal of Honor Monument Location Act. With approval from both chambers of Congress, the legislation now heads to President Trump for approval and would designate a site near the Lincoln Memorial for the National Medal of Honor Monument.

This milestone brings our Nation one step closer to creating a permanent place where generations can honor the extraordinary valor, selfless service, and sacrifice of Medal of Honor Recipients. We look forward to seeing this important tribute take its place on the National Mall.
