Today is Make Life Beautiful Day, and it invites us to pause and notice that we see beauty everywhere when people choose to care for one another. At Calvary Women’s Services, we see that beauty every day in the community that surrounds our work, from volunteers serving meals to supporters who make it possible for women to rebuild their lives with dignity and stability.

This day celebrates everyone who lifts others up and spreads joy in ways that are simple but deeply meaningful. Whether you are helping someone directly, volunteering your time, or sharing a moment of kindness, your actions create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond what you can see.

We invite you to continue that ripple today by supporting Calvary Women’s Services and helping create more moments of safety, stability, and hope for women across DC: https://giving.gofundme.com/campaign/799694/donate

Every woman deserves a place where she can be fully herself, safe! Calvary Women's Services is proud to celebrate Pride Month to honor LGBTQ+ women in our community who are navigating homelessness and trauma. We are also grateful for the support of the LGBTQ+ community in our city that helps make their healing possible.

Holding close and sending love to LGBTQ+ individuals who are still navigating discrimination, exclusion, and harm. You deserve safety, dignity, and belonging always!

Good vibes, great people, and an even better cause!

On June 30 from 6-8 PM, Calvary Women's Services will be featured in Dacha Navy Yard's Cause Tuesday series. Cause Tuesday is a chance for communities to gather, enjoy a summer evening and support a local nonprofit at the same time.

At a moment when more women across DC are experiencing homelessness and housing instability, events like these help ensure women continue to have access to housing, mental health care, employment support, and other life-changing services.

We'd love to see you there: https://pro.gofundme.com/event/calvary-summer-social/e798299

Volunteers, don't forget to email Sarah ([email protected]) for your special discount code!

What makes Calvary different?

Ask almost anyone in our community and you'll hear the same answer: the people.

In this special message, Board President Tina Stow reflects on the power of celebrating women in a space filled with hope, compassion, and people who genuinely believe brighter futures are possible.

Because while one evening can celebrate hope, it takes a community to sustain it.

This summer, women across DC are still relying on the same community Tina speaks so highly of for safe housing, mental health support, employment services, and the opportunity to rebuild after homelessness and trauma.

To everyone who has attended an event, volunteered, donated, advocated, or shared our mission, thank you. You make this community so extraordinary! And for the women walking through our doors today, your support continues to make all the difference.

The next generation is already showing up for women across DC!

We were honored to welcome an incredible group of young volunteers through our new partnership with The Honeycomb Project. Together, they prepared and serve a meal for women rebuilding their lives after homelessness, trauma, and crisis.

This summer, you can make a difference too. One of the most meaningful ways to support women at Calvary is by providing a meal. Whether you volunteer on your own, with family, friends, coworkers, or a community group, sharing a meal creates comfort, connection, and community for the women we serve.

Check out our meal volunteer schedule and claim a date this summer. We would love to welcome you to Calvary: https://www.calvaryservices.org/volunteer/

Before coming to Calvary Women’s Services, Trinity was living in her car while navigating years of trauma, chronic health challenges, and housing instability. Today, she is rebuilding her life, working full-time, preparing to complete her degree, and planning for her future.

Her story is a powerful reminder that when women have access to housing, trauma-informed therapy, and a supportive community, healing becomes possible.

“Calvary has given me a new foundation. I’ve solidified myself and I can stand up now where before I was just stumbling.”

Read Trinity’s story and learn how mental health support, housing, and compassionate care empowered her to begin again: https://www.calvaryservices.org/2026/05/building-a-new-foundation-a-story-of-stability-and-hope/

As homelessness continues to rise across DC, access to mental health support for women rebuilding after trauma, domestic violence, and crisis is more important than ever.

At Calvary Women’s Services, women have access to free, onsite, trauma-informed mental health services that allow them process trauma, rebuild confidence, and move forward with stability and support.

This Women’s Health Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, we are rehighlighting the work and insight of Dr. Aleata Dawkins, one of Calvary’s therapists, whose approach to healing centers compassion, safety, trust, and empowerment.

Healing after trauma is not linear and for many women, simply having a safe space to speak openly without judgment can be life-changing.

Mental health support is not an “extra.” It is essential to helping women rebuild their lives after homelessness and violence.

A gift of $150 can help provide one woman with access to trauma-informed mental health services at Calvary. Donate here: bit.ly/donatecwsdc

Every woman deserves the opportunity to heal, feel safe, and begin again.
