This week's CBCF Intern Spotlight is on Communications Intern, Mone' Ross!

Mone' is from Detroit, Michigan and a recent graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelors in Communications and Public Relations. While at Michigan State, Mone' served as Public Relations Intern for Peckham, Inc., Student Senator in the Associated Students of Michigan State University and Graphics Coordinator with the Big Ten Network. She also studied in the United Kingdom at Regent's College and is member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Mone' is currently interning in the Office of Rep. Gary Peters.

The United States Postal Service announced that it would recognize Ms. Chisholm, the first black woman to serve in Congress, with a stamp in its Black Heritage stamp series next year.

Kendall is from Los Angeles, California and a senior at the University of California, Merced, majoring in Political Science. While at California, Kendall served as a writer for TheLavaLizard.com, a writer for The Prodigy, and as the Chief Public Relations Intern for Creativity Ainta Side Hustle, LLC. Kendall is currently interning in the Office of Rep. Corrine Brown.

This week's CBCF Intern Spotlight is on Emerging Leaders Intern, Kelly Granger!

Kelly is from Glen Cove, New York and a recent graduate of Davidson College with a bachelor's degree in Anthropology. Kelly has studied abroad in Salvador, Brazil and in Cape Coast Ghana. While at Davidson, Kelly served as research assistant in the Department of Arab Studies and for a National Cancer Institute grant. She also served as an extern at Carolina's Medical Center. Kelly is interning in the Office of Rep. Charles Rangel.

March on Washington 1963 Official Program inspired our nation to be more inclusive and to allow all of us to achieve our greatness. Today's 200 speakers include women and our first Black President assembling now at the Lincoln Memorial.

Fifty years after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech, leaders from civil rights, organized labor, housing, media, education and politics will once again convene in the nation’s capital to urge Congress to create more jobs, protect voting rights, and to address the litany of recent attacks on immigration and workers’ rights, and equality for the LGBT community.

Spread the word that President Obama’s 2005 “Yes We Can!” program is being revived and transitioning it to the “Hope Institute 2013”. Application DEADLINE is May 20.

Established in 2005, the “Yes We Can!” was a solution offered by then-Senator Barack Obama to address the problem of the lack of broad, diverse representation in politics, and the lack of opportunities in underrepresented communities for young persons to enter into political careers. The program was a successful endeavor, recruiting a number of talented, aspiring young people, who continued on to accomplished careers in political fundraising, nationwide and state campaigns, and politically minded organizations.

In its 2013 iteration, the Hope Institute will consist of 40 recent college grads from underrepresented groups that we give a 3-day intensive crash course in politics and exposure to this world. We then want to plug them into campaigns and get them engaged for future careers in politics. It will be in conjunction with our NFC meeting which we are now looking to have June 13th and 14th. It will be all expenses paid for the participants and all applicants would have to apply online at the following link:
