MELT: Moms for the End of Lawless Tyranny

Standing for Families. Standing for the Constitution. Standing Against ICE. We are mothers. We are neighbors. We reject this reckless, violent behavior.

We are patriotic Americans who believe in the Constitution, the rule of law, and the bonds of family. We believe that the current policies and actions of ICE, the Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies violate the foundational principles of this country. We have witnessed due process ignored, freedom of speech threatened, and basic human rights trampled. We have seen ICE agents act wi

th cruelty and without oversight, separating children from their parents, shoving pregnant women, destroying families, and detaining peaceful people, citizens and immigrants alike. We reject fear as policy. And we reject attacks on families and children. We insist on Constitutional government. We insist on humanity, empathy, and common sense. As mothers, we know what it means to protect. As Americans, we know that our Constitutional rights should never be compromised. We stand together for the rights of all.

We believe that hospitals should be places of healing, that patients have a right to be safe, and that law enforcement should only be on hospital grounds as a matter of routine security or as first responders.

When masked soldiers can come into your home with no warrant, when they stop you on the street at gunpoint and demand to see your papers but refuse to show their badge, it is TYRANNY. These are not American values. This is not about immigration. This is not about left vs right. This is a deeper split. ICE goes against the foundational principles of the United States. They must be stopped.

Moms for the End of Lawless Tyranny (MELT) is a group of regular moms and dads (including cat parents and dog parents), neighbors, and friends whose consciences demanded we speak up about the violence and lawlessness we're witnessing.

We stand for families. We stand for the Constitution. And we stand against ICE.

Renee Good's murder is not an isolated tragedy. It is the latest moment in an extreme reign of terror carried out by ICE. Thousands of families have been torn apart. Thousands of people imprisoned without trial. Hundreds have disappeared. Dozens have been confirmed killed. And now a mother has been shot in the face in broad daylight.

This is what state violence looks like. This is what happens when cruelty becomes policy and dehumanization becomes routine. We are watching the erosion of basic rights in real time, and the cost is measured in human lives.

Silence is complicity. If some of us are not safe, none of us are.

This morning, MELT had the honor of co-hosting an accompaniment training session in Northern Virginia (with amazing Latin American pastries from a local bakery). The room was filled with people who care deeply for their neighbors, people who want to walk with individuals who are facing the threats of cruel and violent systems, and people who would rather bear witness and take action than look away in fear.

While, of course, the focus of this event is the individuals facing the immigration court process, for a short while, I allowed myself to soak up the feeling that this room full of wonderful people was exactly what *I* needed. I needed to be inspired by these amazing neighbors from all backgrounds and faiths and all walks of life, to realize that there is a resistance movement, that people really do care.

We are organizing, we are taking action, and we are ready to show up for our neighbors and walk with them through thick and thin, because we believe in honoring the dignity of every human being. We're doing this simply because we would want someone to do it for us if the shoe were on the other foot.

If you're a mom, and this makes you feel like crying or screaming, you're not alone. MELT is a group of moms who feel deeply about protecting American values and families. We were tired of feeling powerless when we watched the news, watched horrible things happening to other moms, and watched our Constitution trampled daily. So we banded together to try to make a difference, to turn our frustration into something good for someone else.

You don't need a degree in political science or lots of free time every day to make a difference. You just need to follow your conscience. Message us if you want to find out what you can do to stop the world from ever having to read a headline like this again.

Join a growing community of moms, neighbors, and allies who are turning compassion into action. 💙 Tonight at 6 PM, MELT is meeting on Zoom to plan real, hands-on projects that make a difference — from advocating for sanctuary hospitals and launching our grocery gift card drive for families affected by ICE, to organizing accompaniment training and community outreach with local faith groups. Every day, people risk being abducted by violent men acting outside the scope of law while they go about their regular lives- school pickups, shopping, going to work, going to the doctor.

If you want to do something to help, but you don't know how to even start, consider joining MELT or donating to our grocery delivery fundraiser to benefit families targeted by ICE. Sign our Sanctuary Hospital Petition. Take five minutes a day to write to your senator or congressperson. There ARE things each of us can do to change this ugly world on both an interpersonal and institutional level.
