On 26 May 2019, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) activists gathered near the Khar Qamar checkpoint in North Waziristan to raise their voices against alleged human rights abuses, militarization, and injustices faced by local communities.
During the protest, Pakistani security forces opened fire on peaceful protesters at Khar Qamar, resulting in the killing and injury of civilians. The incident shocked Pashtun communities across the world and became a symbol of the demand for justice, dignity, and accountability.
Following the incident, PTM leaders were arrested, restrictions were imposed, and grieving families were left searching for answers.
Years have passed, but the questions remain:
Who will answer for the blood spilled at Khar Qamar?
Who will deliver justice to the victims and their families?
How long will calls for accountability be ignored?
We call upon the United Nations, international human rights organizations, global media, and democratic institutions to support an independent investigation into the Khar Qamar killings and all alleged human rights violations in Pashtun regions.
The victims must not be forgotten.
Justice must not be denied.
