Last week, the Perry Center concluded the CYBER-AI and GSSD courses, bringing together 104 participants from 13 countries.

Over two weeks, participants strengthened their ability to analyze and address challenges in cyberspace, artificial intelligence, and defense governance, and examined threats such as ransomware, disinformation, and transnational organized crime.

During the closing, COL John Dee Suggs Jr. emphasized that “no one leads alone—leadership is a team effort.” Guest speaker Katherine E. Sutton underscored that success in today’s security environment depends on effective implementation, coordination, and adaptability.

The Perry Center thanks the course directors, facilitators, collaborators, and staff whose efforts made the program possible.

These courses strengthened regional partnerships and advanced the Perry Center’s mission to build enduring networks of defense and security leaders across the hemisphere.

Last week, Professor of Practice Celina Realuyo led high-level engagements in Chile, advancing regional security dialogue and strengthening U.S.-Chile partnerships.

She met with Chile’s Minister of Defense, delivered lectures at the National Academy of Political and Strategic Studies and the Chilean Army War Academy, and participated as a panelist in the U.S. Embassy’s “America 250: Freedom” event on the future of national security.

These engagements fostered collaboration among defense and academic leaders, advanced shared strategic priorities, and reinforced coordinated, solutions-focused approaches to regional security challenges.

They reflect the Perry Center’s mission-driven, results-oriented approach to advancing security and defense cooperation in the Western Hemisphere.

Today, the Perry Center launched two concurrent in-residence courses: Cyber Policy Development and Artificial Intelligence Applications for Defense (CYBER-AI) and Governance and Strategy for Security and Defense (GSSD).

The programs bring together 106 participants from 14 countries to examine key security challenges facing the Western Hemisphere. CYBER-AI focuses on cyber governance and the role of artificial intelligence in defense, while GSSD examines security and defense strategy, governance, and decision-making in democratic contexts.

Perry Center Interim Director COL John Suggs Cafferata welcomed participants, emphasizing that regional security depends on strong partnerships, shared knowledge, and sustained collaboration.

Over the next two weeks, participants will strengthen their ability to address emerging threats and build enduring partnerships across the region.

Last week, Professor of Practice Eric Driggs served as a senior advisor at the Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference in Annapolis, MD. The Midshipmen-led event brought together international and US cadets to examine key security challenges.

This year’s theme focused on countering PRC influence across warfighting domains. Mr. Driggs contributed to discussions on “PRC in Latin America,” highlighting the Center’s regional expertise and commitment to developing future security leaders. In doing so, he reinforced the Center’s mission of supporting the warfighter and educating the warfighter.

Today, the Perry Center welcomed a 51-member delegation from Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC). The group was welcomed by Perry Center Interim Director Colonel John Suggs Jr., Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. William Godnick, and Professor Dr. Arturo Sotomayor.

The visit featured an organizational briefing by Dr. William Godnick and a presentation by Dr. Arturo Sotomayor on the strategic implications of space and artificial intelligence in the Western Hemisphere.
