On August 29th, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service federal wildlife officer David Taylor was helping to evacuate residents threatened by the fast-moving Railroad South wildfire in Comanche County, Oklahoma. David, along with hundreds of other first responders from local, federal and tribal agencies, were going door to door and getting residents to safety as the fire threatened the community.

His final radio contact with dispatch came while he was assisting a family to leave their home that was endangered by the fire. Evidence recovered from a structure where Taylor was working to help a resident escape indicates that he died during the evacuation effort. The fire was reported to have burned over 500 acres, destroyed at least 5 homes and claimed two lives; one of whom was officer Taylor.

38-year old David Taylor dedicated his life to public service. He served wildlife refuges in New Mexico before joining the staff at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. David was also a former volunteer firefighter with the Scio Rural Fire District in Oregon. David found his passion in Fish and Wildlife, a career that allowed him to work in law enforcement while spending time outdoors, bringing together two things he loved.

David also proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he received numerous awards and decorations for his service. Following his honorable discharge from active duty, he continued his military career with the U.S. Navy Reserve, attaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his military career, David completed five deployments, including one to Iraq and four to Djibouti, Africa.

David leaves behind a loving wife, three children, parents and several siblings. He will be laid to rest later this week.

Another state “representative” making it easier on the criminals.
FYI - The Federal Government will handle their own enforcement of laws (like impersonating a Federal Officer).

The only people who should be making arrests are trained professionals who are held accountable to the law, not civilians acting on instinct, emotion, or prejudice.

That’s why this year I was happy to support legislation that made Delaware become the first state to explicitly ban the outdated and dangerous practice of “citizen’s arrests.”

HB 153 prohibits anyone without explicit statutory authority from detaining or arresting another person, and HB 142 prohibits unauthorized individuals from making arrests in Delaware for alleged felonies committed in other states.

As an added protection, and in response to the rise in impersonation cases across the country, the House also championed HB 152 - a law that expands the criminal offense of impersonating a police officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or fire officer to also prohibit impersonation of a federal officer.

Delawareans should be able to feel safe in their communities, and not have to constantly worry that someone may take the law - or their interpretation of the law - into their own hands.
