NAGARA is member-supported, member-driven, and member-responsive. NAGARA is governend by a board of directors that represent local, state, and federal governments. Most of its work is carried out through committees, task forces, and other groups which provide for board member input and participation. NAGARA's approaches ensure that it deals with immediate issues in a practical way that produces real solutions that its members can apply and use. Government at all levels is changing and adapting to meet shifting public expectations, service needs, resource levels, and changes in our society and economy. Its records and information resources are essential to the sound management of government. Records represent a major invenstment of time and technology, and the dramatic shift to creation and use of electronic records and information pose records management problems of unprecedented complexity and magnitude. Managing government records and information today is a demanding challenge that requires skill, dedication, and an understanding of management techniques and technology and a capacity to adopt new techniques to meet changing issues and needs. Two NAGARA deadlines close today.

Applications for the 2027 Annual Conference Program Committee and the 2026-2027 NAGARA Mentorship Program both close today: Monday, August 31.

Program Committee: help shape the program for the 2027 Annual Conference in Denver, July 13 - 16, 2027. The committee meets monthly through July 2027 and selects content and speakers.

Mentorship Program: one conversation a month, October 2026 through May 2027, with monthly discussion topics provided. Mentors are especially needed, and mentors may earn ICRM Certification Maintenance Points and ACA Continuing Education Credits.

Both are open to active, dues-paying NAGARA members, and both applications take only a few minutes.

NAGARA is seeking active members to serve on the Program Committee for the 2027 NAGARA Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado (July 13 - 16, 2027). Applications are due Monday, August 31, 2026.

Committee members collaborate with a team of 15 volunteers, including a Chair and Vice Chair, to design and deliver the conference program. The committee includes three representatives each from Federal, Tribal, and Territorial governments; state governments and institutions of higher learning; local governments; and at-large members.

Responsibilities include:

- Selecting concurrent session content and speakers
- Recommending keynote and general session speakers
- Helping arrange pre-conference workshops
- Supporting conference networking efforts
- Serving as on-site Session Liaisons

The commitment involves monthly meetings through July 2027, with increased activity from mid-January through mid-March 2027 and mid-May through July 2027, plus on-site participation in Denver.

Applicants not selected for the Program Committee will be invited to serve as Conference Session Proposal Evaluators, reviewing and scoring proposals using a provided rubric.

Open to active, dues-paying NAGARA members. Whether you are a veteran professional or new to the field, your perspective is valued.

Applications are open for the 2026-2027 NAGARA Mentorship Program!

Now in its fourth year, the program pairs mentors and mentees for reciprocal learning centered on archives and records management. Pairs meet remotely once a month from October 2026 through May 2027, supported throughout with monthly suggested discussion topics, a midpoint check-in from the Mentorship Subcommittee, and a closing evaluation that shapes the following year.

What participation involves:
- Remote meetings once a month, October 2026 through May 2027
- Up to 5 ICRM Certification Maintenance Points and 5 ACA Continuing Education Credits
- Free for NAGARA members
- 100 percent of participant survey respondents would recommend the program to a colleague

Mentors are especially needed. Last year's cohort had more mentees than mentors, so if you have experience worth passing along, this is the year to sign up.

NAGARA has adjusted its membership dues, effective August 1, 2026. This is the first change to our rates since 2017, approved by the Board of Directors following a review of what it costs to deliver our programs and services.

Current members in good standing keep their existing rate through their next renewal. The updated membership dues rates apply on renewals effective July 1, 2027 or later. Only new and rejoining members join at the new rates now.

NAGARA has joined a statement with the Society of American Archivists (SAA) and the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) addressing NARA's planned closures of facilities in Chicago, San Francisco/San Bruno, and Seattle. The statement, approved by NAGARA's Board of Directors on July 20, 2026, calls on NARA to communicate a clear plan for ongoing public access to the affected archives, secure full funding for the Seattle facility's reconstruction, and advocate for the resources needed to sustain the nation's federal records infrastructure.
