Last evening, we were honored to present Tamburitza Across America: Celebrating Croatian-American Heritage Through Music at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater as the Embassy’s flagship A250 cultural event. 🇭🇷🇺🇸🎶

It was a truly magical evening that celebrated the rich musical traditions, history, and enduring contributions of Croatian Americans to the fabric of American life.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Jerry Grcevich, whose vision, artistry, and dedication brought this remarkable concert to life. Through music, storytelling, and the timeless sound of the tamburitza, Jerry paid tribute to generations of Croatian Americans who preserved their heritage while helping build and strengthen the United States. His performance was a moving reminder of the power of culture to connect communities, generations, and nations.

We were delighted to welcome members of the Croatian-American community, friends of Croatia, and supporters of the A250 initiative for an evening that celebrated a shared story spanning both sides of the Atlantic.

Our sincere thanks also go to our generous sponsors whose support made this special event possible: Adriatic Strategic Partners, ACAP, the Croatian Fraternal Union, Gideon Brothers, KiNRG, and Podravka.

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, evenings like this remind us of the countless ways Croatian Americans have enriched the cultural, civic, and community life of the United States. We are proud to celebrate that legacy and grateful to all who joined us.

Yesterday, Alexandria came alive with the flavors, music, and spirit of Croatia at our special Flavors and Sounds of Croatia celebration. 🇭🇷🇺🇸

On the eve of the arrival of the Vatreni to Alexandria, visitors had the chance to experience Croatian culture through traditional music and dance performances by Klapa Podvorje and Kolo Club Marian from Steelton, Pennsylvania, as well as Croatian food, wine, and olive oil.

The event is a continuation of the wonderful cooperation that has grown from the Croatian National Team choosing Alexandria as its World Cup base camp. What began through football is quickly growing into something much broader — a partnership rooted in friendship, culture, tourism, and people-to-people ties. We are excited to see this relationship continue to expand into many new fields, and we cannot wait to see what comes next.

A heartfelt thank you to the AlexandriaVA.gov, Visit Alexandria VA, city workers, first responders, and all partners and volunteers who helped organize this beautiful event and made everyone feel so welcome. We are also grateful to Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and City Manager Jim Parajon for attending the event and further enhancing the evening with their presence and support.

Guests enjoyed a wonderful performance by Klapa Podvorje, whose beautiful Dalmatian harmonies brought a special touch of Croatia to the evening.

A special thank you to Hotel AKA Alexandria and its outstanding staff for their warm hospitality and partnership in hosting this beautiful event.

As part of the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the European Union and its 27 Member States presented a special collection of books to the Library of Congress — an invitation to discover Europe through the stories, ideas, and voices that have shaped our cultures and histories. 🇪🇺🇺🇸📚

Croatia was proud to contribute Goldsmith’s Treasure (Zlatarovo zlato) by the great Croatian writer August Šenoa, one of the foundational works of Croatian literature. The book now joins the collections of the Library of Congress as part of this meaningful transatlantic cultural initiative.

Ambassador Pjer Šimunović was honored to attend the event, which highlighted the enduring importance of literature, cultural exchange, and the strong ties between Europe and the United States.

From the UEFA Champions League to the Super Bowl, Croatian Americans have helped shape not only the world of sports — but the way we experience it. 🎬⚽🏈

In this edition of our A250 series, we spotlight Pete Radovich Jr. — the award-winning Senior Creative Director of CBS Sports and one of the most accomplished storytellers in American sports media. A 45-time Emmy Award winner across 17 different categories, Radovich has helped bring some of the world’s biggest sporting events to life, including CBS Sports’ world-renowned UEFA Champions League coverage, the Super Bowl, Olympic Games, Wimbledon, and the Final Four.

Born in Astoria, Queens to Croatian immigrant parents from the islands of Kaprije and Pašman, Pete grew up speaking Croatian at home and proudly embracing his identity. After spending part of his youth in Zadar, where he deepened his connection to Croatia and its culture, he returned to the United States with a renewed sense of purpose — eventually combining his love of sports and art into a remarkable career in television.

Among his many acclaimed projects was the unforgettable 2018 AFC Championship opening featuring John Malkovich, which earned multiple Emmy, Cannes Lions, and Clio awards. Through his work, Radovich has helped redefine sports storytelling for a global audience.

From Queens to Zadar to the biggest stages in global sports broadcasting, Pete Radovich’s career epitomizes the creativity, vision, and dedication that Croatian Americans continue to bring to American cultural and public life.
