Georgetown University Center for Retirement Initiatives At the Center for Retirement Initiatives (CRI), our mission is to strengthen the retirement security Americans are facing a looming retirement crisis.

The largest generation in history—the baby boomers—will retire at a time with fewer workers. According to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, many Americans report that they have virtually no savings or investments and the percentage that are confident about having enough money for retirement dropped to record lows between 2009 and 2013. Almost one-half of all working Americans (approximately

68 million Americans) work for employers that offer no retirement plan and 85 percent of Americans are not on a path to achieving a secure retirement.. The Center for Retirement Initiatives is working to build on the momentum taking hold in states across the country by studying and facilitating efforts to expand retirement options. Its mission is to help states implement savings programs by conducting original research and compiling existing research on the most effective retirement options, developing methods to understand and facilitate the public debate, becoming a clearinghouse for best practices, participating in conferences and other events, and disseminating information.
