It is a dynamic, progressive union that provides workers a voice at work. The Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO (UWUA) is one of the most successful and progressive unions in all of the labor movement. We have around 45,000 members working in the electric, gas, water, renewable and nuclear industries across the United States. Our influence is not just felt by our numbers; it is recognized

that the UWUA is both innovative and relentless in our interest in and ability to protect utility jobs, and the wages, benefits and working conditions that our members enjoy in their jobs. We are committed to a job well done and dedicated to improving the lives of our UWUA members and their families, indeed, all working families. The UWUA knows that our strength lies with our membership, so every decision we make, every negotiation we take part in, and every initiative we put in place is done with the advancement and well being of thousands of UWUA members, retirees and their families in mind. We have invested a great deal of time and money in a variety of programs, such as safety and health training, legislative affairs, and benefits plans, so that our members will be protected on the job and in their paychecks. We are extremely proud of the great advancements the UWUA has made and very excited about what will surely be a bright and prosperous future.

Today is Women Veterans Day, which marks the signing of the Women’s Armed Forces Integration Act in 1948. The Act guaranteed women the right to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces full-time, in recognition of the essential role women have played in wars and peacekeeping throughout history.
Thank you to all our Women Veterans, including those pictured, who we’re proud to call members of the UWUA!

Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA) with bipartisan support. The legislation bolsters union members' collective bargaining rights by speeding up first contracts. The legislation creates guardrails to ensure that when workers vote to unionize, a collective bargaining agreement follows.

June 8, 1966: 35,000 Machinists launched a 43-day strike against five airlines, demanding a fair share of the industry’s booming profits. This would be the largest airline strike in history (so far).
