National African Immigrants and Refugee HIV and Hepatitis Awareness Day celebrates the unique health challenges faced by African-born communities living in the U.S. September is also National African Immigrant Heritage Month recognizing the impact African Immigrants play in the shaping of the country.

This day, Sept. 9, calls on all of us to support culturally responsive services and ensure that every community has access to life-saving resources. It raises awareness about three key goals:

- Reduce Stigma: Combat deep-rooted social stigmas surrounding HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis in African immigrant and refugee communities
- Increase Screening: Encourage testing, treatment, and viral hepatitis vaccinations, as hepatitis B and HIV disproportionately impact these populations.
- Raise Awareness: Promote prevention and care strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate, overcoming systemic barriers like language differences and a lack of health data

We don't just do presentations at - you get live performances, too!

This year, attendees will see a staged reading of "He Loves Me Not, He Loves ME", written by Kimberly Skeete. The reading will be followed by a panel discussion where attendees will explore and reflect on how story, identity and lived experience shape HIV prevention, transmission and care.

Be there in San Diego to experience what promises to be a very moving session. ➡️ nursesinaidscare.org/conference
