Today on , we are reminded that hunger is about more than food — it’s about dignity, stability, health, and access.

In Washington, DC, 38% of the population experiences food insecurity, including 1 in 7 children. Notably, 76% of those experiencing food insecurity are employed, highlighting the growing challenges many working individuals and families continue to face.

At Bread for the City, we see these realities every day. Through our food pantry and free weekly Farmers Market Fridays, we help provide fresh, nutritious groceries in a welcoming and respectful environment. Because everyone deserves access to healthy, nutritious food.💚

Bread for the City’s CEO George A. Jones, COO Mahogany Thomas, Food and Clothing Director Trazy Collins, Chief Development Officer Ashley Domm, along with supporters, donors, and friends of Bread for the City, came together for an engaging salon-style conversation centered on the growing needs of our community and the importance of sustaining compassionate, wraparound care.

The discussion highlighted Bread for the City’s services and the many ways we work to support our neighbors through food assistance, medical care, legal services, behavioral health—underscoring the critical role donor support plays in helping sustain and expand this work for our community. 🤝

The conversation centered around the potential impact of recent SNAP policy changes and funding challenges, and what those shifts could mean for individuals and families already navigating food insecurity and economic hardship.

As policies evolve, organizations like Bread for the City must continue adapting to meet increasing needs while advocating for equitable access to essential resources and support.

A special thank you to our gracious host and former Bread for the City Board President, Paul Taskier, for his longtime advocacy, leadership, and steadfast support of Bread for the City, and to everyone who joined this thoughtful and important conversation about community, care, and the work ahead. 💚

We can't do this without you!
