Federal Transit Administration (FTA) FTA provides financial & technical assistance to public transit systems, including buses, subways, light rail & commuter rail. We are part of USDOT.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) was founded as the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) by the Urban Mass Transportation Act signed by President Lyndon Johnson on July 9, 1964. The Federal Transit Administration oversees the federal funding, safety, and research of Public Transportation. This includes streetcars, subways, light rail, bus rapid transit, ferries, and all other fo
