Pakistan: PSC Condemns Crackdown on Jammu Kashmir Movement

The Progressive Students’ Collective (PSC) has issued a statement condemning the recent escalation of repression against the mass movement in Jammu Kashmir and expressing solidarity with the people confronting the ongoing crackdown.

In its statement, the student organisation said that since 27 July, the region has witnessed a renewed wave of violence, with reports of numerous casualties and injuries following the deployment of paramilitary forces in areas including Rawalakot, Kotli, and Mirpur. The PSC argued that the use of force against demonstrators has intensified an already serious political and humanitarian situation.

The statement identifies the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) as the broad coalition leading the movement around democratic and economic demands. According to the PSC, rather than responding to these demands through dialogue, the authorities have relied on anti-terror legislation, arrests, and other coercive measures against organisers and supporters of the movement.

The organisation further stated that over the past two months, the people of Jammu Kashmir have experienced mass arrests, surveillance, internet shutdowns, restrictions on movement, and limitations on democratic freedoms. It also criticised attempts to portray participants in the movement as terrorists, arguing that these measures form part of a broader pattern of restrictions on political dissent.

Expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir, the Progressive Students’ Collective condemned the use of force by paramilitary personnel and called for an immediate end to the violence. Bangladesh: Left Organisations Hold Torchlight Rally in Solidarity with Jammu Kashmir

Left-wing youth, student, cultural, and trade union organisations in Bangladesh organised a torchlight rally in Dhaka to express solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir and protest the ongoing repression in the region.

Held under the slogan “Stop the massacre in Jammu Kashmir,” the demonstration brought together activists from a range of progressive organisations, who condemned the violence against civilians and called for an end to the crackdown.

Carrying torches and placards, participants expressed solidarity with the ongoing mass movement in Jammu Kashmir and urged the international community and democratic forces to raise their voices against the repression. The rally highlighted the growing concern among progressive movements in South Asia over the escalating humanitarian and political situation.

Sri Lanka: RSU Condemns Repression in Jammu Kashmir, Expresses Solidarity with Mass Movement

The Revolutionary Students’ Union (RSU) of Sri Lanka has issued a statement condemning the ongoing state repression in Jammu Kashmir and expressing solidarity with the mass movement led by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

In its statement, the RSU criticised the authorities for responding to the movement through curfews, communication restrictions, the use of live ammunition, mass arrests, and other coercive measures. The organisation argued that these actions have intensified the political crisis in the region rather than addressing the underlying economic and democratic grievances raised by the movement.

The Sri Lankan student organisation described the JAAC as a broad-based mass movement that has mobilised workers and oppressed communities around economic and democratic demands. According to the statement, instead of engaging with these demands, the authorities launched a widespread crackdown beginning on 5 June, accompanied by internet and mobile network disruptions, raids, surveillance, and arrests aimed at suppressing the movement.

The RSU also referred to the resistance that emerged in Rawalakot, where protesters maintained sit-ins despite repeated attempts to disperse them. It condemned the use of force against demonstrators during the events of 27–28 July, stating that security forces opened fire on protesters participating in the long march towards Rawalakot, resulting in significant casualties.

The statement further alleged that restrictions on the movement of food, medical supplies, and access to healthcare had compounded the humanitarian situation in the region. It characterised these measures as collective punishment directed against the population.

The Revolutionary Students’ Union called for an immediate end to the repression, the withdrawal of paramilitary and security forces from the streets, the restoration of internet and communication services, unrestricted access to food and medical assistance, the release of political prisoners and detained activists, and an independent investigation into the reported killings.

Pakistan: Kashmir Solidarity Protests Met with Restrictions Across Major Cities

Solidarity protests for the people of Jammu Kashmir were held across Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, where students, workers, lawyers, and progressive organisations raised their voices against the ongoing repression in Jammu Kashmir.

In Lahore, dozens of protesters were detained before the demonstration could even begin. In Karachi, Section 144 and road blockades were used to restrict a peaceful protest. In Rawalpindi, activists demonstrated under heavy police deployment.

Despite arrests and restrictions, solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir continues to grow.

Pakistan: Kashmir Solidarity Protests Met with Restrictions Across Major Cities

A wave of solidarity protests in support of the people of Jammu Kashmir took place today across Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, where left-wing and progressive political parties, student organisations, trade union activists, lawyers, and members of civil society mobilised against the ongoing repression in Jammu Kashmir.

The demonstrations reflected growing concern over the ongoing crackdown in Jammu Kashmir, where dozens have been killed, hundreds arrested, and fundamental democratic rights continue to face severe restrictions under the pretext of maintaining “law and order.”

•Lahore: Police Detain Protesters Before Demonstration Could Begin

In Lahore, police moved to prevent the demonstration before it had formally begun. Protesters gathering in solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir were surrounded, detained, and transported to nearby police stations in prison vans. Dozens of students, workers, and political activists were detained as the authorities forcibly dispersed the peaceful demonstration.

Despite the arrests, demonstrators continued raising slogans in solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir from inside the police vehicles, demanding an immediate end to the ongoing crackdown in the region. All detainees were released later in the day.

The arrests once again reflect the increasingly authoritarian response to peaceful expressions of political dissent.

•Karachi: Section 144 Used to Block Peaceful Demonstration

In Karachi, the administration imposed Section 144 around the Karachi Press Club and sealed all access roads with shipping containers in an attempt to prevent a peaceful protest jointly called by lawyers and civil society organisations against the ongoing repression in Jammu Kashmir.

The organisers condemned the restrictions as unconstitutional and a direct violation of fundamental democratic and civil rights, stressing that the demonstration was entirely peaceful and intended to demand an end to repression and human rights violations.

To avoid confrontation despite the heavy restrictions, lawyers and civil society representatives recorded a limited protest, while other demonstrators held peaceful actions at High Court Chowrangi, Press Fountain, and Korangi Road. However, organisers warned that if the repression and human rights violations in Jammu Kashmir continue, future demonstrations will proceed regardless of Section 144 or other unlawful restrictions, placing responsibility for any escalation on the authorities.

•Rawalpindi: Protest Held Amid Heavy Police Deployment

In Rawalpindi, activists from progressive organisations and members of the Kashmiri community gathered outside the Press Club to express solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir and condemn the ongoing repression. The protest took place under heavy police deployment, highlighting the authorities’ determination to restrict the demonstration despite its peaceful character.

Participants demanded an immediate end to repression, the release of political prisoners, and accountability for the killings and widespread human rights violations taking place across the region.
