Today, we honor the life and service of Chelsea Decaminada, a Department of Commerce employee who was killed at just 26 years old in the Easter Sunday terrorist attack in Sri Lanka while serving her country on official assignment.

Chelsea devoted her life to public service, including her work at the Department of Commerce and as a Peace Corps volunteer.

She lived a life defined by compassion, public service, and a deep commitment to others. Her life and service left a lasting impact on all who knew her and worked alongside her. The Department of Commerce honors her legacy and mourns this tragic loss.

Globalization has FAILED.

Secretary Lutnick at the World Economic Forum:

“The Trump Administration and I are here to make a very clear point—globalization has failed the West and the United States of America. It’s a failed policy… and it has left America behind.”

America is done exporting jobs and offshoring its future. We will no longer give in to globalization.

Secretary Lutnick on the amazing 4.3% GDP growth:

“We’ve got more jobs, lower energy costs, and lower interest rates coming. This is the Golden Age ahead. 4.3% this quarter means Americans, on average, are making more money—more money in their pocketbooks. And that makes for a great Christmas.”

Pulmonary edema is dangerous and can lead to breathing difficulties and lung failure. Since it has the potential to develop suddenly, it can be a serious medical emergency.

A National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) researcher interested in the application of technology in health care, wondered: Is there a way to monitor this condition at home with a simple wearable device?

Kamran Sayrafian developed a computational model of the lungs with different levels of excess fluid with the long-term goal of developing a device that could alert the patient or medical provider when it detects pulmonary edema in the user’s lungs.
