On 30 May 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington, D.C., represented by its Education and Agriculture Offices participated in EidFest, held in the city of Carmel, Indiana.

During the programme, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about Malaysia through the Embassy’s booth and engagement activities. The Embassy was also honoured to receive a token of appreciation from the Mayor of Carmel, Ms. Sue Finkam, in recognition of its participation and support for the programme.

As part of its working visit to Indiana, the Embassy also held an engagement session with Purdue University’s Global Partnerships Team and College of Engineering to discuss potential cooperation in research and mobility programmes involving Malaysian higher education institutions.

The Embassy also explored opportunities to further promote Malaysian agri-food products in the Indiana market.

On 3 June 2026, Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Syed Farizal Aminy Syed Mohamad received Ms. Shoba Devi A. Balakrishnan, Chairperson of Yayasan AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia.

The meeting served as an important platform to advance the shared commitment to youth empowerment and international education. Discussions centered on expanding collaboration through flagship programs under the U.S. Department of State initiative managed locally by AFS Malaysia to build future youth ambassadors. By expanding pathways for study abroad through youth exchange programmes, both the Embassy and Yayasan AFS are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of global citizens and deepening people-to-people ties between Malaysia and the U.S.

On 28 May 2026, Ambassador Tan Sri Shahrul Ikram received a courtesy call by Ms. Marie Ajeng, Principal Assistant Director of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, who is currently undergoing a 10-week training at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. On 19 May 2026, H.E. Ambassador Tan Sri Shahrul Ikram held a meeting with Ms. Angela Klinger, President of International at Tyson Foods.

The meeting discussed avenues to strengthen cooperation in the food and agriculture sectors, as well as the potential expansion of Tyson Foods’ footprint in Malaysia.

Tyson Foods, one of the world’s largest food companies, expanded its operations in Malaysia in 2018. The company currently operates three facilities in Malaysia and employs more than 1,500 local workers.

On 2 May 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington, D.C. organised an Immigration and Consular Open Day in conjunction with its participation in the Passport DC programme.

Held in collaboration with the Immigration Attaché Office and the Consulate General of Malaysia in New York, the programme offered a range of services and information sessions for visitors, including the handover of renewed passports to Malaysian citizens.

This initiative reflects the Embassy’s ongoing commitment to bringing consular and immigration services closer to Malaysians residing in the United States, while strengthening engagement with the Malaysian diaspora and the wider local community.

On 2 May 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington, D.C. was thrilled by the incredible turnout for our event, welcoming a record-breaking 8,500+ visitors that consists of local Washingtonians, international community, and residents from across the DMV area.

The visitors experienced the “Truly Asia” spirit celebrated with vibrant colours, sounds, and flavours of Malaysia that include, among others; the mesmerising Malay wedding demonstration that showcased Malaysia’s deep-rooted traditions, culinary diplomacy over the rich, spicy, and sweet flavours of Malaysia, interactive traditional games & activities, and virtual reality tour of Kuala Lumpur City Center.

The atmosphere reached a fever pitch during the lucky draw sessions. We are delighted to congratulate our winners, especially our grand prize lucky draw winner is set to embark on a 5-day edutourism journey to Malaysia!

A heartfelt thanks to the D.C. community and the international diplomatic circle who visited and made the Embassy of Malaysia’s Passport DC event a resounding success.
