What a great way to start off DC Archaeology Month! On Saturday, June 6th, staff from our archaeology team participated in the annual DC Day of Archaeology festival hosted by Archaeology in the Community; this year, at The Catholic University of America. The team ran a handful of hands-on activities including making corn husk dolls, grinding corn, and artifact guessing games. Thank you to the 240+ participants who came out to support the event and learn more about archaeology in the DC area!

This year’s DC Archaeology Month poster highlights the archaeological and historical history of CUA and was created by DC artist and CUA alum Justine Swindell in collaboration with the DC Office of Planning and AITC. If you didn’t get to make it on Saturday, there are still many archaeology-related events coming up for the rest of the month, including sessions with the Young Archaeologists Club, and a historical tour of Garfield Park!

We’ve heard from many of you about DC 2050’s draft future land use map that we released in March. Right now, we’re working on an updated version of the map informed by the feedback we have received.

As part of the full draft plan release this fall, you can expect to see a revised map that looks different and is paired with more detailed policy guidance. It’s our goal to make sure the District’s comprehensive plan reflects the needs of DC residents, businesses, and community members today and into the future.
