My journey in America did not begin in the halls of power — it began with humble beginnings, hard work, sacrifice, and a deep belief in serving people.

For decades, I have dedicated my life to community betterment, social advocacy, grassroots organizing, and standing beside working families, immigrants, seniors, youth, and underserved communities. From my early involvement in mainstream American politics during the historic movement from Senator Obama to President Obama, to being recognized as an Obama Fellow and receiving the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, every chapter of my journey has strengthened my commitment to public service.

Service has never been a slogan for me — it has been my life’s work.

I am currently serving as the Chair of the East County Citizens Advisory Board and as a member of the Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman Faith Advisory Board. I previously served as Chair of the Asian American Advisory Board for Mayor Alvin Brown, served on the Public Service Grant Commission, and served on the Executive Board of Directors for GlobalJax — advancing diversity, civic engagement, cultural understanding, and stronger community partnerships.

I am also the Chair, and co-Founder of the National Asian American PAC-FL and have proudly served many profit and non-profit organizations, including numerous social justice, civic engagement, and political activist organizations dedicated to empowering communities, increasing representation, and advancing equity and opportunity for all.

These experiences taught me that leadership is not about power — it is about responsibility, accountability, and having the courage to fight for people, especially when it is difficult.

Now, I am ready to take that service to the next level — to serve all residents as a transparent, accountable, and people-centered County Council At-Large member.

Our campaign is built on real priorities for Montgomery County:

Tonight, my better half, Nahid, represented not only me — but our entire movement, our vision, and our community — at the meet and greet event with US. congressional candidate Mr. Joseph Gomes, a proud first-generation immigrant.

She spoke from the heart about why representation matters. Why our immigrant, minority, and faith communities must have a seat at every decision-making table — from the courthouse to the White House, and at every level of government — so our voices are heard, respected, and valued.

She powerfully articulated how we must continue paving the road for our next generation to walk with confidence, opportunity, and dignity.

Today, I want to take a brief pause from the campaign trail to simply say thank you.

Last night’s event was not just another campaign gathering — it was a powerful reminder of what community, sacrifice, and shared hope truly look like. Seeing so many people come together, not for personal gain, but because they believe in a mission bigger than themselves, deeply moved me.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to every volunteer, supporter, donor — both in-kind and monetary — sponsor, host, and co-host who made the event possible. Campaigns are demanding, exhausting, and often overwhelming. The truth is: without people like you, it is virtually impossible to run an effective campaign.

I just concluded a very productive virtual meeting with the Citizens Coordinating Committee on Friendship Heights (CCCFH), chaired by Linda Nemec and community leaders representing 18 communities and nearly 20,000 residents across Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Forest Glen, and Silver Spring.

It was an engaging discussion with thoughtful questions that were very near and dear to my heart. We spoke in depth about my commitment to transparent, accountable, and people-centered leadership, as well as my proposed first 100 days agenda for Montgomery County.

I shared my vision for a more responsive county government where residents have a direct voice in decision-making, and where transparency and accountability are not just promises, but standard practice.

Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation, shared concerns, and offered ideas for the future of our county. These conversations matter, and together we can build a Montgomery County that truly works for everyone.
