The National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization primarily composed of current and former black women legislators as well as many appointed officials. Originally established in 1985 as a national organization to increase and promote the presence of black women in government, NOBEL Women in recent years has expanded its vision to serve as a global voice to address a myriad of issues affecting the lives of all women.

Women’s History Month is here, and at NOBEL Women, we don’t just celebrate history… we build it.

For more than 40 years, Black elected legislative women have shaped policy, protected our communities, and opened doors that once seemed locked.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. (1941–2026), a tireless champion for civil rights, voting rights, economic justice, and human dignity.

From marching alongside Dr. King to building coalitions that moved policy and people, Rev. Jackson reminded the nation that hope isn’t passive. Hope is organized.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Jackson family and all who loved him. May we carry forward his charge to “Keep Hope Alive” by doing the work with courage, faith, and unity.

Rest in power.

Across cities and states, we showed up, not just to be present, but to shape agendas, elevate voices, and move policy forward on behalf of our communities. Each event, conversation, and collaboration carried the weight of legacy and the promise of progress.

This is the work of NOBEL Women.

As we reflect on this year, we do so with gratitude, pride, and renewed commitment. The moments captured here are more than memories—they are markers of leadership, service, and purpose fulfilled. And the work continues.

We proudly celebrate our Texas NOBEL Sisters named to the Higher Heights 2025 Chisholm List. In one of the nation’s most challenging political environments, these leaders stand firm,advancing voting rights, protecting access to healthcare, and strengthening education for communities across Texas.

Their work reflects courage, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

From New York to Florida, Black women are setting the agenda.

We are thrilled to celebrate Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell on their selection to the 2025 Chisholm List!

Whether it’s commanding the majority in the Empire State or fighting fiercely for our rights in the Sunshine State, these women embody the grit, grace, and governance that Shirley Chisholm championed. They are the definition of political courage.

History makers. Gavel holders. Trailblazers.

Today we celebrate two absolute powerhouses named to the 2025 Chisholm List: Speaker Joanna McClinton of Pennsylvania and Speaker Adrienne A. Jones of Maryland.

As the first Black women to serve as Speakers in their respective State Houses, they aren’t just holding the door open, they are rebuilding the entire house. Their leadership proves that when Black women lead, policy changes and communities rise.
