CGC Bristol Bay conducted ice rescue training on the ice of Lake Erie during Operation Coal Shovel in between creating and maintaining navigable tracks through ice covered waters to help preserve the navigability of the Great Lakes Maritime Transportation System. ❄️🛟🧊

Port Security Units are the U.S. Coast Guard’s dedicated rapid-response expeditionary forces and while most reservists train alongside active duty units, PSUs consist almost entirely of reservists. They provide response to natural disasters and security to forward-deployed ports and bases around the world when needed, operating jointly with other U.S. and international allied forces.

Earlier this week, a family was rescued by the crew of CGC Midgett in the waters of Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia and reunited with loved ones upon their safe return via 🚁 The crew of the Midgett rescued the family after their vessel went missing a week earlier.

The MSRT (Maritime Security Response Team) is the U.S. Coast Guard's elite, globally deployable counterterrorism force specializing in high-risk boarding, direct action variability (ranging from close-quarters combat to precision marksmanship), helicopter insertion, advanced maritime interdiction, and response to CBRNE threats (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive).

Coast Guard MSRTs frequently train alongside other units in the U.S. military, law enforcement agencies, and allied nations to enhance interoperability and coordination.

There are two teams, MSRT-East (Chesapeake, VA) and MSRT-West (San Diego, CA), providing rapid response to national security situations.
