The State Department was pleased to participate in Capitol Hill Ocean Week to talk about something that affects every American who enjoys seafood and supports our ocean — U.S. fisheries competitiveness and sustainability. 🐟🌎

Did you know?
✔️ U.S. marine fisheries support 2.3 million jobs and nearly $500 billion in economic activity every year.
✔️ The State Department works hand-in-hand with NOAA, the U.S. Coast Guard, and international partners to protect American fishers and consumers.
✔️ We lead global efforts to stop illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing — keeping illegal seafood off your plate and ensuring fair access for American fishers.

On April 30th, the U.S. Department of State hosted a Commercial Space Roundtable focused on American Leadership and Prosperity in Space. This session convened leaders from prominent U.S. space companies and trade associations with representatives from relevant U.S. government agencies, including the State Department, NASA, and the Department of Commerce. 🌐

U.S. commercial space activities have rapidly expanded in the last decade and now comprise one-third of the global space economy. As the space environment evolves and strategic competition grows, the innovation of the U.S. commercial space sector is more critical than ever. This roundtable was an opportunity for private sector leaders and government representatives to identify ways the State Department can improve its advocacy and support for the U.S. commercial space sector globally, reinforcing America’s leading role in the modern space age.

Strengthening collaboration between the U.S. government and the commercial space industry is essential for ensuring continued American leadership and advancing our shared interests in a secure, stable, and prosperous space environment.
