Today, we recognize 82 years since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the original GI Bill into law.

This transformative legislation has gone on to change the lives of millions of service members and their families, including many in South Texas, who have been able to buy homes, access higher education and vocational training, and more.

When I met with leading USDA experts in Kerrville, Texas, nearly two years ago to discuss New World Screwworm eradication efforts and bring ideas back to Washington, it was clear then, and still is, that the Administration hasn't done enough to combat this invasive pest.

Moreover, the Administration opted to cut funding for early detection and prevention as part of their “waste, fraud, and abuse” agenda. This—coupled with the billions in taxpayer dollars spent in support of Argentinian beef—has further jeopardized our state's $15 billion cattle industry.

Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of resilience, freedom, and the ongoing journey towards justice. On this day, 161 years ago, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and free enslaved African Americans.

The U.S. has made a lot of civil rights progress since then, but much work remains. With extreme gerrymandering continuing in states across the nation, I am committed to protecting the voices of every minority community at the ballot box. Congress must immediately pass my bill to end hyper partisan mid-decade redistricting and give power back to the people.

The Administration's unauthorized war in the Middle East needed to come to an end, and I'm pleased an understanding has been met. However, the brokered deal is humiliating for the US, and evident that there was truly no strategic plan in place.

American lives lost; Iran gets control of the Strait of Hormuz and can wreak havoc at will on the global supply of oil; and the US will lift sanctions and hand over at least $300 billion for reconstruction and economic development.

We should be restricting Iran's development of a nuclear weapon and limiting their ability to obtain other weapons of war. This is far from the art of the deal, and America is less safe.

Earlier this year, the House passed a bipartisan bill I co-led, the Rural Housing Regulatory Relief Act, to streamline the development of affordable housing for South Texas families.

But ongoing labor shortages due to the Administration's hyper-aggressive immigration policies continue to delay construction and make it difficult to meet our region's housing needs, especially in rural communities. met with realtors from all over South Texas to discuss how we can work together to overcome harmful policies slowing growth in our communities and ensure every family can afford a home!

When the Administration's Big, Ugly Bill passed into law, Republicans in Washington effectively raised health care costs on cancer patients and millions of Americans. This can have a devastating effect, especially in South Texas, as we continue to struggle with a shortage of physicians and specialty care.

I'm proud to support the Protecting Patient Access to Cancer and Complex Therapies Act to ensure cancer patients in South Texas have access to low-cost treatment closer to home rather than travel hours-long distances to San Antonio, Houston or Dallas.
