us, non-degree program geared to the specific curricular and pedagogical needs of educators. The seven day summer course is held on the campus of Georgetown University and will be taught by Georgetown faculty. Guest lecturers from think tanks, government and non-governmental agencies, authors, independent scholars, and clergy will enhance the learning experience. Participants will have access to Georgetown University’s libraries, as well as the numerous museums and cultural institutions in Washington, DC. Participants will gain an understanding of the ways in which the Holocaust has shaped, and continues to impact, international relations and foreign policy. This focus reflects the strengths of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and its location in the nation’s capital. Participants will leave with an in-depth understanding of the Holocaust and be prepared to teach the subject matter in a way that satisfies state requirements for public, private and parochial schools. Teachers will fulfill CEU requirements for Catholic dioceses and also for states with Holocaust education mandates. Teachers will be supplied with resources and become part of a network of educators equipped for a new era of Holocaust education. How can educators teach lessons from the Holocaust and Holocaust history in the most relevant and meaningful way? The Certificate in Holocaust and Genocide Studies accomplishes this by focusing on contemporary issues and implications, such as:

• US Foreign Policy
• War Crimes Trials
• Scientific Experimentation
• Interfaith and Church-State Relations
• Restitution of Property and Assets
• The Roles of American Government and Businesses
• Propaganda

Participants will access:
• The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
• Library of Congress
• Embassies and diplomatic staff
• Smithsonian Institutions and other museums
• Members of Congress
• University faculty
• Georgetown University libraries
• Local synagogues
• Leaders of major Jewish organizations such as the American Jewish Committee and Anti-Defamation League
• United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

ICYMI: Fr. Patrick Desbois and Yahad-In Unum were mentioned in the Washington Post's article on the new monuments revealed in Ukraine for the mass grave victims of the Holocaust. Fr. Desbois speaks with our participants of the Jan Karski Institute for Holocaust Education today in a private session and then will give a public lecture this evening.

Ludvika Sarah Leah Schein, who survived the Holocaust, hadn’t been to her hometown in 70 years. But she still vividly remembers the day Germans came to Rava-Ruska.
