District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission DC Judicial Nomination Commission is an independent, non-partisan Commission responsible for merit-b JNC also selects the Chief Judges of each of the DC courts.

The DC Judicial Nomination Commission is an independent, non-partisan Commission composed of seven members—two appointed by the Mayor of the District of Columbia, two by the Board of Governors of the District of Columbia Bar (Unified), one by the Council of the District of Columbia, one by the President of the United States, and one judicial member appointed by the Chief Judge of the United States

District Court for the District of Columbia. The JNC solicits and screens applicants for judicial vacancies on the DC Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. It forwards to the President of the United States the names of three highly qualified applicants for each vacancy. The President nominates one candidate from this list, subject to advice and consent by the Senate.
