ANCA Summer Spotlight: Aida Artashesyan of Daly City, CA, is a junior at St. Ignatius College Preparatory and a graduate of KZV Armenian School, with a strong interest in public policy, social justice, and advocacy.

Aida served on the executive board of the AYF San Francisco “Rosdom” Junior Chapter and leads her high school’s Armenian club. She also tutors two Armenian students from Artsakh, helping strengthen their communication skills.

A member of the Summer 2026 Kasparian Summer Academy class in Washington, DC, Aida came in with a clear goal: “to learn more about the process of crafting pro-Armenian legislation and how Armenian youth can effectively advocate for Armenia, Artsakh, and issues that matter to our community.”

The ANCA was proud to host Aida and looks forward to her continued advocacy for the Armenian community in the Bay Area.

Florida's members of Congress are asking Secretary Rubio to live up to his own record.

Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chair Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) co-led the October 5 letter, alongside Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) and U.S. Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ), in which over 100 members of Congress called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to enforce Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act and withhold U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan.

As a Senator, Marco Rubio co-led the Armenian Protection Act with Senator Gary Peters, which passed the Senate unanimously after Azerbaijan's genocidal ethnic cleansing of Artsakh. These lawmakers are asking Secretary Rubio to enforce Section 907 until Baku frees the Armenian hostages, stops destroying Armenian Christian heritage, and withdraws from Armenia's sovereign territory.

"Armenia has the right to determine its own future and any transit arrangement affecting Armenian territory must respect its sovereignty and remain under Armenian control." - Congressional Armenian Caucus Founding Co-Chair Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ), in his video message to the ANC International Summit in Yerevan (Sept. 25–28).

Rep. Pallone demanded the release of the Armenian hostages held by Baku and the safe, dignified return of the 150,000 Armenians forcibly displaced from Artsakh. He backed full enforcement of Section 907: "The United States should not provide military assistance to Azerbaijan while it holds Armenian prisoners and refuses to recognize the right of return."

California stands with Armenia.

Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) co-led the October 5 letter, alongside Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) and U.S. Representatives Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ), in which 26 Senators and 75 U.S. Representatives called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to enforce Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act and withhold U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan.

The lawmakers put it plainly: "It is clear that the decision to waive Section 907 has not induced Azerbaijan's engagement on ensuring the release of POWs." Aliyev has answered American generosity by sentencing Armenian hostages to as much as life in prison, destroying Armenian churches, and refusing to pull his forces off sovereign Armenian land.

Michigan led the way.

Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) led over 100 members of Congress in calling on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to enforce Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act and withhold U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) and U.S. Representatives Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ) co-led the October 5 letter.

President Trump waived Section 907 in August 2025 and notified Congress in July 2026 that he would extend that waiver, even as Baku sentenced Armenian hostages, including Artsakh's former leaders, to prison terms as long as life, demolished Armenian churches, and kept its troops on an estimated 241 square kilometers of sovereign Armenian territory.
