The National Job Corps Association

The National Job Corps Association What is Job Corps? Job Corps is our nation's most successful career preparation program for at-risk young Americans ages 16-24.

The mission of the National Job Corps Association is to unite the Job Corps community through activities and services that strengthen the program for the benefit of students, staff and employers. The 125 Job Corps Centers in all 50 states have helped nearly 3 million disadvantaged young Americans complete their high school education and transition into higher education, a gainful career or militar

y service. Job Corps is able to succeed with a population that has been left behind by the traditional education system because Job Corps provides practical training tied to employers' real expectations. Job Corps' demand-driven model recognizes that young workers' success in today's labor market depend on four factors: Personal development, education, job skills and job readiness.

🇺🇸🔧 Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at New Haven Job Corps

The New Haven Job Corps Center was honored to welcome Senator Richard Blumenthal during its Career Fair celebration for National Apprenticeship Week.

During his visit, Senator Blumenthal spent more than an hour speaking with students, learning about their career goals, and exploring the center’s hands-on training programs—including its four pre-apprenticeship trades that help prepare students for long-term career success.

His time with students highlighted the importance of workforce development, apprenticeship pathways, and investing in the next generation of skilled professionals.

We are grateful for Senator Blumenthal’s continued support of Job Corps students and the opportunities that programs like these create for young people across the country. 💙

🇺🇸✨ From Job Corps Student to Lifelong Public Servant

Emmanuel Mercado Ocasio entered Ramey Job Corps at just 16 years old with talent, determination, and a dream bigger than himself. A gifted fencing athlete from Puerto Rico’s Olympic Training Center, Emmanuel understood early on that success required more than skill—it required opportunity.

At Ramey Job Corps, he earned his high school education, completed the Plumbing Trade Program, and developed the discipline and leadership that would shape his future. After working as a plumber, Emmanuel went on to fulfill another dream: serving in the United States Army as a Military Police officer.

Today, after retiring from military service, he continues protecting and serving others as a federal law enforcement officer and Active Shooter Instructor.

Recently, Emmanuel returned to Ramey Job Corps—not as a student, but as an inspiration. He shared his journey with current students, reminding them that Job Corps is more than career training—it’s a pathway to purpose, growth, and opportunity.

💬 “The chair you sit in today can become the foundation of the life you dream about tomorrow.”

Stories like Emmanuel’s are a powerful reminder of why Job Corps matters. 💙

🇺🇸👏 Leadership in Action at Long Beach Job Corps

Five student volunteers from Long Beach Job Corps recently assisted at U.S. Representative Nanette Barragán’s Community Conversation held at the Port of Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club in San Pedro, California.

The students represented their center with professionalism and pride—arriving on time, adhering to dress code expectations, and supporting the event with outstanding teamwork and service throughout the Town Hall.

A special moment of the day included student Tee K. presenting Congresswoman Barragán with a National Apprenticeship Week shirt that she personally designed, followed by a group photo with the Congresswoman.

Experiences like these give Job Corps students the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and engage directly with community and civic leaders.

💙 We’re proud of these students for representing Job Corps so well!

💙🔨 Building More Than Furniture—Building Support for the Community

Students and staff from David L. Carrasco Job Corps recently partnered with the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence to help assemble beds and tables for individuals and families in need.

Over the course of five visits across three months, Job Corps volunteers provided the manpower, tools, and hands-on expertise needed to complete the project—helping create safe, welcoming spaces for the center’s clients and tenants.

💬 “It is a great feeling to know we are helping others less fortunate feel better by putting this furniture together.”
— Mr. Ricardo Hernandez, HVAC & Facility Maintenance Instructor

The community partner shared their appreciation, saying:
💬 “Thank you for coming down to help us. It would have taken us way longer to get them done.”

Through projects like this, Job Corps students continue to demonstrate leadership, compassion, and the power of giving back. 👏

🌲🔨 Restoring History. Rebuilding Communities.

Following the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck Falling Springs in Missouri earlier this year, the first phase of restoration is now complete—thanks in part to the incredible efforts of students from Mingo Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center.

Working alongside the U.S. Forest Service, Job Corps students applied their skills in carpentry, construction, and heavy equipment to help repair the historic mill, reinforcing roof structures and restoring key elements damaged by the storm. Their work is helping preserve this important site and protect it for future generations.

From clearing debris in the immediate aftermath to contributing to long-term repairs, these students played a vital role in bringing the site back to life.

👏 A huge thank you to Mingo Job Corps students and staff for their dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment to service.

This is Job Corps in action—building skills while making a real impact.

✨ : Kobe James ✨

From Harvey, Louisiana to Capitol Hill, Kobe James is redefining what’s possible.

When Kobe came to New Orleans Job Corps, he already had a CDL—but he knew he wanted more. He wanted to expand his horizons, explore new opportunities, and build a future on his own terms. Through Job Corps, he shifted his mindset, discovered new paths, and gained the confidence to pursue something bigger.

💬 “Job Corps showed me the sky’s the limit—no matter what you’re going through.”

While balancing real-life responsibilities like work and bills, Kobe found support every step of the way—helping him stay employed, stay focused, and keep moving forward. Along the journey, he developed a passion for growth, entrepreneurship, and becoming the best version of himself.

Then came a life-changing moment: Hill Day in Washington, D.C.

For Kobe, it was more than a trip—it was a transformation.

Walking the streets of D.C., standing in the Capitol, and speaking with members of Congress gave him a new perspective on leadership, opportunity, and what his future could look like.

💬 “I felt like I belonged there.”

That experience ignited a new level of confidence—showing him that success isn’t out of reach, it’s something he can step into.

Kobe’s message is simple:
If you want to better your life and your future—go for it.

💙 Because at Job Corps, opportunity is real—and so is the transformation.

🚨💙 Answering the Call to Serve

Students from Ramey Job Corps have reached an incredible milestone—earning their First Responder Certification and gaining the skills to make a real difference when it matters most.

Through this training, students are now equipped with life-saving skills including CPR, first aid, emergency response, and crisis assessment—preparing them to act quickly and confidently in critical situations.

But this achievement goes beyond certification. It represents commitment, courage, and community impact. These students are now part of a growing network of trained individuals ready to respond to emergencies and support their communities across Puerto Rico.

At Job Corps, we’re not just preparing students for careers—we’re empowering them to lead, serve, and step up when others need it most.

Nina Brown’s journey is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of Job Corps.

Before enrolling at Pinellas County Job Corps, Nina faced instability—moving from place to place and searching for a path forward. Today, she’s a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, working at Bayfront Hospital and building a future she once only hoped for.

Through Job Corps, Nina not only gained career training, but also found purpose—serving as an ambassador, tutoring fellow students, and growing both personally and professionally.

💬 “Everything I’ve gone through helps me connect with patients and make them feel safe and at ease.”

Now living independently in her own apartment, Nina says the biggest change is stability—and the confidence to set boundaries and build the life she deserves.

Her story is captured in a tattoo she carries with her:
✨ “11:59 — even the longest of days will eventually come to an end.”
