DHC is saddened to learn of the passing of dance historian, archivist, and performer David Vaughan, a hero of dance preservation.

Beloved dance historian, writer and archivist David Vaughan passed away today at the age of 93. His extensive archival work for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company set a new standard for dance preservation. In tribute, we offer this profile, by Siobhan Burke, which appeared in our December 2015 issue

Did you hear? We're partnering with Dance/USA! Genie Guerard, DHC's Board Chair and Curator of UCLA's Special Collections, said, "The mission alignment between our organizations makes this a compelling partnership. Dance/USA's leadership is passionate and dynamic, and collaborating with them will strengthen DHC's ability to serve all our constituents: artists, archivists and librarians, students, scholars, and the dance-loving public."

In 2012, DHC hired the fabulous Patsy Gay to work on David Gordon's archive, from there she became his personal assistant, and the work has grown into this amazing exhibit. Congrats to Patsy and David, and all who helped to create this exhibit!

What do you call an artist who would title a work Autobiography of a Liar? A postmodernist. (Ba dum.) Suzanne Carbonneau, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival Journal 2002.
