Friends of Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park Dogs

Friends of Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park Dogs Follow us on Twitter: This Facebook Group is maintained by the Bloomingdale LeDroit Dog Park Association (BLDPA).

We are a non-profit organization made of community residents. BLDPA is tasked - through a Memorandum of Understanding with the DC Dept. of Parks and Recreation - with managing and maintaining the dog park in LeDroit Park. For example, we clean up p**p when you forget to, we empty the dog park trash cans when the city forgets, we provide the p**p bags for use in the park, we enforce the city's rule

s for dog parks, we sponsor community building events for dog owners in our neighborhood and we sponsor training events, among other things. You can support us by becoming a paid member, volunteering for an event or becoming a Dog Park Ambassador.

To our furloughed community, we understand more than most that accidents and emergencies have a way of happening at the worst possible time. While the government remains closed, we are waiving our emergency exam fee and offering deferred/extended payment options for furloughed Federal employees and contractors.

Hey neighborhood dog owners! The dog park in the Park at LeDroit needs your help.

Every dog park in DC must have a community group that advocates on behalf of the dog park with the DC gov and handles basic maintenance tasks. If you are a regular user of the dog park, please consider volunteering some of your time.

There is a small group of volunteers already working on some projects, but we need your help! Things on our radar:
regular park clean-up and weeding days;
providing p**p bags in the dispensers;
making the dog park safe for small dogs;
dog-friendly happy hours;
and, fundraising for a shade structure.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jack Gillum at jgillum [at]

"The stress and excitement of meeting other dogs is a classic cause of mounting, and one of the reasons you are highly likely to see the behavior on display in dog parks. Brief bouts that involve mounting of other dogs in canine social interactions – as long as they don’t lead to bloodletting or oppression of the mountee – are acceptable. Mounting of human body parts is not acceptable, nor is mounting that leads to dog fights."

So why do dogs hump? Reproduction aside, the most common reason dogs hump things is in response to stress, anxiety, and/or excitement. A trainer friend of mine tells of a friend coming to visit a friend who lives far away, visits rarely, and who is well-loved by my trainer friend s dog, a pit bull-m...
