Today marks the anniversary of D-Day. On this day, tens of thousands of American soldiers, sailors, and airmen joined our allies and risked their lives to invade Normandy in northern France, which ultimately led to the defeat of N**i Germany and the end of WWII. The next day, U.S. Representatives said a prayer for those who served.

“Some of our boys died last night for you and me that liberty may not die out of the
human breast.”

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, passport production dropped to around 4.9 million. Why? Economic turmoil. The era of high inflation, recessions and tighter budgets, often referred to as “The Great Inflation,” meant fewer Americans could afford international travel. Plus, longer passport validity reduced the need for frequent renewals.
