With profound sorrow and deep gratitude, Us Helping Us, People Into Living, Inc. mourns the passing of our founder, Yao Rainey Cheeks

In 1985, Bishop Cheeks founded Us Helping Us with a vision rooted in love, community, empowerment, and the belief that our people deserved to live healthy, whole, and dignified lives. What began as a vision became a movement—one that has touched countless lives and continues to serve communities today.

His leadership, courage, compassion, and commitment to our community helped lay the foundation for the work we carry forward. While we grieve the loss of the man who started it all, we also celebrate the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind.

Bishop Rainey Cheeks, your vision lives on. Your work lives on. Your love for our community lives on.

We honor you.
We remember you.
We thank you.
And we will continue the work.

The PrEP Desirability in Black America (PDiBA) initiative is working to better understand the drivers, barriers, and system-level factors that influence sexual health access and PrEP uptake across the country.

Through community voices, research, and collaboration, PDiBA aims to strengthen policies, improve programs, and build systems that work for Black communities—not just today, but for the future.
